Is There a way to get AI in planes to take off?
« on: 18 Apr 2003, 23:11:16 »
I downloaded an F-16 jet, and a Mig-29, thought Id make a fun head to head mission, jut for a laugh. and it works fine when I let the AI start in the air, but if I place the AI in a Mig-29 on the airfield, and give it a move WP straight ahead, at the other end of the field, it just plods along slowly, not even going straight.

Is there a way to make the AI able to take off in a jet plane?

Now this is a long shot as i have been editing for less than a week....but....add this to your AI's Init line...

this setbehaviour"SAFE"

I've never attempted to make an AI pilot take off but i read in a tutorial that unless a mobile units behaviour is set to SAFE they therefore avoid roads/runways which will cause your plane to not pick up speed ;)

I hope i am right on this.....let me know if it worked :)

Otherwise it could that it starts in the wrong direction, the runways in ofp is set for one direction. If you place a plane in the wrong end, it will slowly roll out on the sideway and go to the other end where it will turn around and start. And when they start they roll slowly for about 50m then start picking up speed

AI planes have to be placed on the south end of the runway facing north, or somewhere on the taxiway facing south. They will not take off east to west, so that means you can't use the northern airfield on Nogova. Waypoints are not needed on the airfield. The units first waypoint should be the first place you want it to fly to no matter where it is on the island. AI units are already coded to navigate the airfields to takeoff and land. Also, to make a unit land, give it a getout waypoint anywhere on the island. The unit will go into autopilot and land on his own.
