Quick question

What is the best way to make sure that a chopper lifts of vertically and doesn't hit any objects after taking off?

My suggestion would be this.... I am assuming you just dropped off or picked up something?

1. Create a move waypoint extremely close to your drop/pick waypoint

2. In the Activation field type:

choppername flyinheight desiredheight

3. Create another move waypoint for your chopper... and away it goes

1.&2. will raise your chopper to the desired height and 3. will move you chopper to the next position.

Will it matter if I already had a trigger covering the whole map that sets the flyinheight for that chopper?

Agent Fire, while it is ok to bump your question if it has been lost for a day or two, it is not ok to bump it after a mere two hours.  >:(   Many questions lie essentially unanswered for a day or more, so please have some consideration for those people who have had no answer who you have pushed down the page by your inconsiderate post.

Those two hours, incidentally, would have been more than sufficient for you to discover the answer yourself by means of experiment.     Having been given such an excellent answer, you should not make a post at all until you have tried the suggested answer and have something intelligent to report.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I suspect that the whole map trigger would not be quite what you need in this situation ... the chopper would set off for the next waypoint and climb at its usual rate.    By setting a move waypoint (with the embedded instruction) very close to the unload one, the chopper is compelled to stay in the area because it has to reach the specified height in order to complete the waypoint.    Probably. :P

Nope...  :( Basically my chopper still moves along the ground (about 3 feet up) until it hits a tree or person and crashes

AF,

Can you explain to us what you are trying to accomplish as a whole... I am trying to understand why you are at 3 feet to begin with so if we know the whole story we can better support it.

Did you ever remove that map wide trigger?

Mission Start - Need to think this outload

helo1 - Helicopter
grp1 - group

1. Create helicopter
2. Create group

Helicopter

1. Create load waypoint (sync1)
2. Create move waypoint
3. Create transport unload waypoint (sync2)
then
Quote
1. Create a move waypoint extremely close to your drop/pick waypoint
2. In the Activation field type:
helo1 flyinheight 30
3. Create another move waypoint for your chopper... and away it goes
Group

1. Create get in waypoint (sync1)
2. Create get out waypoint (sync2)
3. Create move waypoint

And that still dosen't work - dang you got me then   :-\

The full situation: Basically it is a Vietnam mission. The huey is has a flyinheight 18 (because low flying choppers shooting down onto an approaching squad of Vietcong is just... cool). It picks up my squad, flys off to another loacation, and then gets a transport unload waypoint, synchronized to my squad's get out waypoint. After getting out, the huey has a waypoint pretty much on top of the transport unload that has the 'helo1 flyinheight 30' in the on activation line. But what always happens is that when my squad is out, it decides to speed along at waist height - regularly straight into me. Then of course it explodes and nobody's happy.

I've got what you've explained there, but the pilot insists on suicide missions. I'm about to do what you said and remove the trigger.
