how do i make a civ start off with a gun (e.g AK47)?

CivviName addweapon "WeaponName"       Gives the civvi a weapon
CivviName addmagazine "magazine"        Gives the civvi a magazine. Note that you have to put in addmagazine before addweapon.

Welcome to the forums, MiNtY

I suggest you check out the Editor's Depot, especially the tutorials section for all those questions that pop up when you're just starting out ;)

There's a lot of great resources around the place written by some talented people... all it needs is a bit of time to poke around and read 'em :)
