Problems with an addon
« on: 02 Feb 2003, 13:17:41 »
I am trying to use a mod.  I cant remember the exact name of if, but it basically is extended m21 capabilities.  The one that has the m21 silenced, highpowered, and commo and all that.  It also creates soldiers to use this weapon.

Here is the problem.  when I try to use either the soldier, or the weapon itself, OFP crashes back to desktop and gives me an error message that says something like ".....no entry for m21sil in confg.bin...."

Is there anything that I need to do to get this to work.  I have talked to afew that use this and they had no problems.  the instructions say to unzip to the addons folder.  It is there and I have checked it, but the game says it is a config.bin error?

Please help :-\

If you have resitance, use the resitance addons folder instead.

the error message you got usually means OFP can't find the addon.       ensuring that M21addon.pbo (or whatever its called) is in the Addons folder and then exiting OFP sometimes does the trick.

If the mission still crashes try looking at the mission in the mission editor (or vice versa) sometimes you get a extra clue as to what is going wrong.

still no dice!   :(

There are no error messages in the mission editor, just when you try to play the mission you get booted out to desktop.  I know that you guys dont generally support addons, and I thank you for any and all advice you have given so far.  Is there some kind of editor that I can use to edit .pbo files?  Maybe the problem lay in there or something?  It is in the addons folder.  Should it be anywhere else also?  And one more thing.  with most addons is there just a .pbo file or are there other files that are supposed to go with them?  I am thinking that this may be the case and I am just not getting all the files that are supposed to go with it.

I have contacted the site that offers this addon and they basically tell me in a nice way, "we wrote it, it works for us, the problem is you".

Thanks again for all your help.  :)

Bad luck :(

An addon should be a .pbo + a readme.

If its still not working I suggest you delete the addon and everything associated with it, leave it a couple of days so you forget, then download it again and start again.   Also, try using another addon - see if you can get that to work.   If you have tried and failed with two reputable addons, then it probably is something to do with you, your computer, your OFP or whatever.

If you look in the Editors Depot you will find .pbo-ing utilities ... I don't know which one is the latest or most fashionable.     And I know nothing about addons, so what it spits out I couldn't tell you.
