Make soldiers act as "real" rookies ?
« on: 11 Jan 2003, 14:55:04 »
Hi,

I'm interrested in making missions with guerrilla opposition.
But I would like to make an opposition comparable to Somalian conflict one : high number of low-trained soldiers.  :-\

But in OFP, even with the worst rookie, they keep killing my soldiers in 4-5 bullets... What I would want is soldiers firing approximately at my soldiers (so about 10-20 bullets fired to be able to perhaps eventually if I'm unlucky hit something else than sand ;)  ).

I guess it's not as simple as it should, but perhaps eventually if I'm lucky somebody found out a simple way to make that...  ::)

PS : The only way I found to create in some way such an OpFor is to use Gimbal Tossers, as they have to launch a lot of stuff to injure my men...  :'(

I don't think you can make the men any "less good". I know what you mean though. Reducing the "skill" slider just makes them slower to react, and gives them less awarness, it doesn't really make them any less accurate.

The problem is the soldiers in OFP only fire when they can hit you, i.e they don't lay down covering fire or take un-aimed shots as real rookie militia would. Have you been watching Black Hawk Down?  :) I tried to recreate some thing like that, but the AI just won't act like Somalian militia! They're either too clever or too stupid. i.e. They can't spot you 10m to the left of them, but they can still spot you 200m in front of them in a bush! ::)

Maybe one of these edity folk know a command to make the troops less accurate?

I'm an inconditionnal fan of this movie... it leaves the "Hollywoodian Heros WarMovie" style to make an "All-public WarTime documantary".
really great.

In fact, I was more planning to use them for other african conflicts in open-land or villages. My attempts to make a realisitc Mogadischu mission were only partial-success (or partial-fail as you wish).

The units only react too badly in dense urban areas (especially a Hummer-5t trucks convoy).

I would really like BIS to work on that : modern conflicts are very rarely fought between two regulars armies...

Oh, I've got an idea for the militias : You can edit the "Dispertion" in the weapons config.cpp. Creating a set of classic weapons with a high dispertion rate would make them much less accurate, and so would be the soldier carrying it... no ???
