OpFP 1.90 mission editor and Windows XP Alt+Tab
« on: 08 Jan 2003, 11:26:54 »
Hi All,

I've been away from OpFP for awhile (just after 1.46 was released) but i've gotten back into it when the "Game of the Year" edition was released...

I used to do a lot of mission writing, and being able to alt+tab out of the OpFP editor and research things online was great, but since I've gotten 1.90 and Windows XP I'm having problems...

Basically when I ALt+Tab OpFP loses focus, but remains visible full screen until you Alt+Tab back to it... sometimes you can get it to disappear but it utterly random whether it does or not

I've had a poke around some sites, and searched forums but I cannot find any details at all...

Has anyone seen this before, and does anyone know how to fix it?

Its driving me nuts  :'(

heh - are you using DirectX 9? The only things that have changed between my last bout of OpFP mission making addiction and now are

 - Win2k to WinXP
 - OpFP 1.46 to 1.90
and
 - DirectX 8.1 to 9

I hope it isnt dx9, its ununinstallable :(

ah well, I'm putting together a second pc from spare kit, I guess it'll have to do - tho if anyone knows how to get around this I'm still interested ;)

funny, i just installed the end user version

everything else runs fine :)

thing is, sometimes OpFP will alt+tab first time, sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries but eventually it *will* go... but thats far from ideal :(

on the upside, its given me the motivation to finally put my LAN together, so its not all bad  ;D

I had that problem with 1.46 and win98. It's enough to piss off the pope but it finally went away with a system upgrade. Unfortunately I never zeroed in on a cause.

Hi mate I have the same trouble, thought I was going insane.

I changed a few settings on ofp's graphics options including max lights etc and it let me alt and tab, but then my graphics gameplay started to degrade too much and the game slowed to a halt. Weird cookie.

I auto detected again and now I can't alt+tab anymore :(
It sometimes works, but only sometimes. gay or what.

this is such a wierd bug, seems, as GI says, that if you wait a little while before trying again it works...

still, driving me insane - i'll try lowering my graphics settings and see if it makes any difference :)

EDIT: i tried lowering the graphics settings to no effect, but then i lowered the refresh rate to 60Hz and it hasnt failed to alt+tab once!

now i think about it, i've gotten a new monitor since i last ran OpFP, and my old one couldnt handle 75Hz so i used to run it at 60...

anyway, it seems to be working now - anyone else like to try it and post their results?  ;D

Hello

I think the problem is probably related to dirX 8.1 as I started experiencing this problem after upgrading from 8.0.

To tab out of OFP try pressing Alt-Tab followed by 'Alt Gr' (the key on the opposite side of the space key from 'Alt'. Works for me  :)

Good Luck
