Briefings....*sigh*
« on: 06 Jan 2003, 00:19:22 »
Ok, I'm doing my first ever briefing, and it seems simple stuff. I've got my briefing, it's saved as an HTML file, I can view it and it looks fine, everything seems to be there and in place.

So why is it when I try to play my misson in single player the biefing doesn't appear? It's sitting in my users/mission folder along with the mission.sqm file, I've exported the mission to single player using the editor, but it still doesn't appear! It's driving me CRAZY!!  >:(  :o

your best bet is to edit an already working briefing but use your own info.
If you're in a war, instead of throwing a hand grenade at the enemy, throw one of those small pumpkins. Maybe it'll make everyone think how stupid war is, and while they are thinking, you can throw a real grenade at them.

You don't understand, I did download a template and that's what I was working from. I'm sure the briefing is correct, I'll add it as an attachment so you can check it.

Weere to put it seems a problem. This is what I did.

1.> opened the "users/myname/missions/missionname" folder, and placed briefing (saved as an HTML document) in along with mission.sqm file.

2.> Run OFP, load editor, load mission, save then select "export to singleplayer".

3.> Still in OFP I go to single player missions, load mission...and voila - no briefing!

This is driving me up the fucking wall! What on earth am I doing wrong here?

Please check out my briefing which I have attached....

Two things that you should do:

One, the breifing is not a HTML, itÂ's a txt! ::)

Then you have to rename the breifings name to breifing.html

I only converted it to text because we're not allowed to attach .html files! I tried but it said I couldn't.

You can even see under the "Allowed file types" bellow the attachment box the supportef types html isn't one of them!  ::)

So I'm still stuck. I'm trying a few other things I don't know if it's a problem with my briefing so I going to try inserting a working briefing from another tutorial mission I downloaded. I tell you how I get on.

<<<<Edit>>>>

Ok, I inserted a working briefing from a tutorial mission into my mission and it worked. Which means I know for sure that it's my briefing that's the problem, (though you lot probably knew that all along) could someone please check it and tell me what it is I've done wrong?

Remember the file in my last post is a .txt file simply because Iwe can't upload .html files onto this forum. So please convert it into html and tell me what is wrong with it. I'm going to take another look myself.

Here's that file again...

<<<<Edit>>>>

Um...ok it's working now. I had a look at a different HTML briefing removed the text and replaced it with my mine (same as I did last time!) but for some reason it now works! I've gone back to see what it is I've done wrong so it won't happen again next time - but the briefing that wroks seems identical to theother one! lol I'm puzzled! Well at least it works....anyway thanks for trying to help folks!

Its not supposed to be named briefing.html just briefing, and you should put the briefing into your use\missions folder, and then put a copy of the whole folder into MP missions and missions folder.

And you should use front page for using an existing briefing ;D  Its EASY ;)

I think I might have the 'dang' for this ping-pong briefing ding'a'ling ( ::) )  ;D

MAYBE  :o .... YOUR comp' has windows set to auto...something (dunno what it's called.)
Let me explain here:

Open up some folder, any folder; Click VIEW, and then click FOLDER SETTINGS
or whatever its called in english...

Then click VIEW again (top of lil' window which is popping up) and now you should
see a few clickable setting options in a menu!  :)

Right then, now ya need to UNCHECK the thing called "Hide fileextensions for known file types".
(som'n like that anyho' )  :P ::)

This might be yer bug, matey!  :o 8)

In short, your new setting will allow you to view the whole filename on every file!  ;)

So now ya can easily open up any HTML file using NOTEPAD and then
type in whatever stuff & then select "SAVE AS" and type "Briefing.html" in the
save-field.

Yup! that'll be it. hope it sticks, matey!  :-*

(mod.)================

My point is :   even though you THINK you made a HTML, you actually made a "Brienfing.html.txt" file  :P ::)

Actually, it is supposed to be briefing.html.

Also, you do not need to put it in both the MP missions and missions folders.  Just having it in missions is fine.

@ Aneurysm: The header of your briefing looks different than the header of any briefing I've used.  All of my briefings have the following HTML code at the top:

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type"
content="text/html; charset=windows-1250">
<meta name="GENERATOR" content="vb">

<title>My Mission Title</title>
</head>

Maybe because your briefing didn't have that, it didn't work.

A briefing file, can only be named:

briefing.html

to work in the game. No matter what you have in it (you can just put <.HTML><.BODY><./BODY><./HTML> in it, and it will show up empty) it will show up if it's named briefing.html.

Now, make sure the briefing.html is in:
operationflashpoint\users\<USERNAME>\missions\<MISSIONNAME>\

then it will work.
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming 'WOW What a Ride!'"
