I'm pretty sure they have libraries in Guam... ;D
I'm not sure but I think that some pretty recent issues of National Geographic had some photo essays on Afghanistan. I never bother to read the articles in that mag, I just look at all the amazing photographs.

Urban areas look cool, but in Afghanistan most of the fighting was in the countryside. One of the most important parts of the war was mujhadin assaults on convoys.

yeah, there "use" to be a library in Guam with all the most cutting edge computers (I mean for office uses and stuffs) but because of the former corrupted govenor,,, and government,,, the "library" had to be close down.  Especially after the 911, there was absolutely no way in world that our island could get its economy back.  I mean, absolutely no tourist came to Guam for over 3,4 month.  Couple of my class mate's dad or mom hanged and killed them selves.

The economy is bad!! I'm just thanking God that my dad is a pretty damn good attorney.... and a CPA.

So,,, I can't see any national geographics photos,  LOL.  I'm making some street and village textures right now.  I'll be posting some pictures when I'm finish.  Give me some suggessions when I do.

Sorry bonecollector :-)  Yup there will be one long river and 3 small lakes.  Actually the village I'm making right now is right next to Al Nawar (a small lake in afghanistan.)

I decided not to creat those village textures since it looked to,,, western.  I think Afghan village textures should be comprised with sand, brown, or green vegetations, and rocks.  Currently making different types of textures that will be used to show some village outline.

oh yeah, and yes couple of bridges.  Actually I posted one picture of my bridge.  I believe it is in page 9 or 8 after UK SKA rules requested for them. :-)

Only one problems withe the bridges....... the wrp editor only supports 50m x 50m cells and so when I make a river in the wrp editor, the length of the lake will always be greater atleast 100m,,,,, and so what that means is that I have to make a bridge that is atleast 100meters long.  That is easy but the hard and inevitable thing is that the OFP supports objects, 3D models that are only 64meters and smaller,,,, and when it exceeds the size, the object will not function properly.  Few examples are, the object will not stop bullets when it suppose to, part of the object is visible by AI when it wasn't intended,  when AI or player is walking ontop of the model, suddenly he or she will fall right through it.  I had and still having the problem right now with my bridge that is 240meters long.  It is possible to make a 240 meters bridge by making and placing the bridge into different parts but the wrp editor will not allow me to change the elevation of the object..... so when you play the game, you will see the bridge placed in random elevasions, or not random but kind of misplaced.

There is a way by just making the river base flat, but if I do that and place a object, still, I have to place few object on the land to balance out the length of the bridge.  The bridge in the resistance is a good example of a perfectly balanced and well planned out bridge.  I could just imagine how much trial and error the BIS guyz had to go through to make that bridge.

If anyone could tell me the "EXACT" length of the resistance bridge,  I could make it.  I so far have 2 ideas of a bridge.  One is a wooden bridge and another is a concrete bridge.

Thats odd, I've placed rocks and trees to different levels many times in WrpEdit. Are you sure you switched off the "Fit to ground" option and then manually changed the "Y" value? That's how I do it.

also, if you have any interest in the Soviet-Afghan war, please check out our mod or contact me or Robbo

hmm,, I did switch off the fit to ground and manually changed the elevation of the object and it did work fine in the wrp editor but when I play the game, the bridge is just sticking on the ground.  Why is it... hmm,,, how many  percent is it finish? Well, I want to add atleast few military base and few villages,, and I'm still making building models for the camp rhino... I'm going to still make couple of buildings (about 5 more) a little more natural objects such as a fallen tree where you could take cover from and some more cliff objects.  I was thinking about releasing my island around january but as I was in Japan and after seeing more photos of Afghanistan, I came up with more and more ideas.  It is hard to say how many percent it is finish because if I come up with a new idea, I try to put those as well in the map.  I'm finish making the terrain.  Changing textures around the island as I see more photos.

So,,, if I was to only use the current models and textures, it will be 50~60%? since I'm finish setting objects in 50 to 60% of the island.  I made a tree and a fallen version of it.  I also made couple of more cliff objects.  Posting pictures later on.

That's odd, maybe you should contact those who have made island with a bridge.  Or just download some islands with a bridge and then open them in WrpEdit. A very good island source: http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?sekce=islands :)

I really can't wait for this map! From what I've seen, it looks brilliant. And Cat, you're a really persistent guy,  I mean you barely stopped working on this halfway through a hurricane  ;D

What a guy...

Anyhow, if anyone's interested in the Soviet-Afghan war and what it was like to be there fighting, try and get a copy of The Shooting Gallery by Gaz Hunter. He was an ex-SAS mercenary that went over there with Stinger missiles and gold, and he trained a Mujahideen tribe on how to shoot down aircraft. It also helps strip away the glamour of warfare, telling about what the Afghans did to a couple of captured Russian conscripts.  :-\
