How do you get real life ASCII for use with WrpEdit

Well. How do you get real life ASCII files so you can make accurate maps of real life terrain. More importantly, how can you get them without having to pay through the teeth for a hi-tec program. Are there any websites you can get them from? I understand that there are other files you can use but I forgot the acronymn.
