Right so, ebud. Critism has a lot to do with personal taste. If you made a mission and posted it in, say, 3 different opf mission sites and ,say, 20 ppl found it to be "great fun & cool action" and another 20 ppl tell you "it's lacking great scripting & cutscenes & the huts piss me off" - then i surely wouldn't change anything. Because if i'd do, the cutscenes-critics  would post things like "cool, now the mission is great" while the others will say "aaww cmon, the cutscenes are way to long & the mission becomes unrealistic".

Let's face it. You CAN'T please anyone. Making missions eats up ppl's precious spare time and if they want to make a mission how they'd like it to be then they have every right to do so. Fact is: ppl can DL custom missons for free so they didn't loose anything. Ppl aren't forced to DL them. If ppl don't like what they DLed - bad luck. If ppl think custom missions don't have the quality of the BIS missions - no shit sherlock. We're no professional mission makers. If ppl want mega hyper super realistic vietnam missions then they should call BIS if they can hire some excellent custom mission makers or ppl should try to design such missions on their own.

My 2 cents. Peace.  ;D

Hey, go easy on devils guard, at least he pumping out missions at a fast rate. I've known the guy in real life for over 10 years and can attest to his insanity. If you think his grammer and puncuation are bad you should see his handwriting. And he really is a vet.

While I should be working on more addons, I worked on a Seal Mission today. It's in the mission beta forum. It doesn't quite work totally, but take a look and post comments/suggestions/ideas for fixes in that thread.

If you're in a war, instead of throwing a hand grenade at the enemy, throw one of those small pumpkins. Maybe it'll make everyone think how stupid war is, and while they are thinking, you can throw a real grenade at them.

The first thing I did when I got my new computer just before christmas was create the craziest mission with Nam Pack 2...

I made one full Air cav platoon (3 squads and a platoon HQ with some attached personnel - a platoon aidman being one) in 4 helicopters land on LZ X-ray where a platoon of NVA and some MG pits were located. Before the landings though, there were 2 cobras and 4 OH-6's that sweeped in and took out as much as they could. I played as 1 of three characters all the time, an aircav soldier involved with the landing, an OH-6 gunner sweeping the battlefield while the pilot circled it, and as an NVA rifleman repelling the attackers. It was mad-fun! and my framerates were still sky-high, no slowdowns at any moment!

After that, I thought of a crazier mission, I made an army platoon attack a village protected by some VC with 4 MG pits on a hill that overlooked it and VC sympathizers in the village proper. The villagers and village militia never stood a chance, a barrage of M79 shots always took them out at the first contact (imagine 6 m79 shells landing in a small area at once, then 6 more every 3 seconds after that... simply amazing how much destruction is caused). However, they would be slaughtered by the MG and mortar pits on the hillside, so I decided to add an OV-10 bronco from the DKM mod - very unbalancing, the MG and mortar positions would be smoking by the time the platoon would reach the village.

I then thought of a crazier mission the top both of the ones before it, since they still gave me amazing fps's.

I decided to do a full marine company... This is larger than a comparable army company (army squads only have 9 soldiers, 2 fire teams and a leader, while marines have 13, 3 fire teams and a leader). They attacked a heavily defended NVA-held village (a full company with MG pits) during twilight. There were also NVA recon patrols that were screening where the Americans would attack. I only played as the company RTO in this one, sticking with the company HQ as the battle unfolded, so that I could judge the AI. It was simply amazing, playable fps while at least 250 AI soldiers battled it out on my screen. I tried to make sure my company HQ was farther away from the battle, the idiot captain wandered too close and got him, his XO, and the senior NCO killed. I decided to come closer, but I was shot from behind by an NVA recon... I haven't played it ever since, but I plan to do so again at least once tomorrow :-0

my system specs (how i'm able to play that last battle...)
AMD Athlon XP2000+
512mb RAM
GF2 MX400 64mb (yeech, but I get a GF4 TI4400 128mb tomorrow :D)

Thank you all for getting out the SEB Nam Pack v2 and giving me at least 5 hours of great fun!

Too bad the mortars can't be dis-assembled and moved :/ It would have made that last mission complete :D (And the NVA completely toast)

I too just bought a new system and can finally enjoy the Nam pack and the Ia Drang as it should be. Huge missions, far viewdistances, etc.

P4 2.66 700+ram, etc etc.

It makes such a huge difference, both is FPS and with the crashing.... usually.

1024x768x32, full detail on every setting in the launcher, but only 1000 meters visibility and normal terrain detail :/. I also set direct 3d texture detail to max (something you can't set with the game, you have to do it manually in the nvidia driver thingy). Once I get my GF4 TI4400 (damn, didn't come in today), I'll set visibility a lot higher and terrain detail to maximum >:D.

I've heard that the processor speed helps with lots of units since it's what helps calc the AI. I also heard that the interactivity between group members is what slows down large battles.

I thought that ram would help with the terrain detail.

Also someone posted that viewdistance was really dependant on speed as well rather than ram.

This is just what I heard.

video quality and stuff depend on your video card........if you have a pathetic one.......done expect stuff to look good.........high resolutions will not look too great either

speed of the game and how much it can handle is your ram and processor speed..........if you got a slow one with lil ram........dont expect to be able to run a full scale war too well

i luv flashpoint on my brothers new computer lol

Been Away for awhile..I am at work. I finally can get limited Internet access, when I am at my shorebase....not very often.

I see my mission is still pending. lol, after reading all the critics, I kinda hope it stays there :o

I sure hope that veryone will lighten up a little bit. It is just a game.

I'm working on another SOG mission. I will probably suck too, but I AM HAVING FUN DOING IT!

The pack and the current Island Rock! I would like to see some more Islands, and can't wait unitl I am able to download some of the others missions.

Have fun everybody, and be kind people. Happy New Year. 8)
Why do I have to be a Rocket Scientist to make a good mission?
