Is there a M16A2 in Nam Pack ???
Man I have played with Nam Pack2 and I think there is no M16A2 why?

My Dad Joined The Army In 1985 and was Issued an M16a1 and a Steel Pot, the Wood Land Cammo was Just Entering Service, the Huey was on it's way out. but I'd Imagine that in 1985 the Soldiers in teh Campagin would have used A1s and not A2s but I wouldn't know for sure.

But Select This, Ebud, Bibmi, any one else who worked on this Pack Thanks ya'll did an out standing job!

re: crashes.
Yes, they are there.
Currently, I have them "contained" -- that is, I've got a save.fps file that causes a lockup 5 seconds after a load.  The goal now is to get them "isolated" -- find out if it's a specific unit, weapon or condition that's causing it.

Right now I can tell you:

A) It's not the Ia Drang valley map.  I have reproduced it on Malden.
B) While it does not appear to occur with stock OFP units (and I've tested it), I don't think we can rule it out.   Those of you who've tried the NP know that one of its strong points is the use of dispersion mags. Firefights now seem like firefights rather than sniper duels.  But this means that far more AI units on both sides get "on line" and engage the enemy.  So volume of fire (and fps chunders) is considerably higher.
The next step is to take my "sure-fire killer" scenario and reduce it to two units/weapons.  If that crashes it, change the two weapons and units and try again.    If that crashes it, we're SOL.

Toshiba: there is no way to fix it, its a flaw in the engine, what you can do though is have the person eject inside the chopper once its airborne, this is what the BAS script does, the script will probably have a public release, if not i suppose we can ask tigershark if we can borrow it :)

Hey I know that the CAR 15 wasn't the most accurate weapon ever created, but I was in a fire fight and I was probly 20m from a VC and I couldn't hit him, I wasted 3 mags on him, is this on purpus? or what cause this gun's ballistics are so bad, I might be able to hit europe on a good day, but the Model is Great.  ;)

* SelectThis thinks Punker needs some more weapons practice ;)

joking :)

The CAR-15 has the slightly higher dispersion levels to the M16A1, I suspect you were hitting some of the "invisible" forrest fire geometry shapes. Watch were the bullets impact and adjust accordingly.

well, its not actually a CAR-15 in there, we just gave it the generic CAR-15 name, its actually an XM-177E2(could also be an XM-177E1)

CAR-15:

and the main difference:

also the fore grip(that right?) is more of an M16A1 shape

XM-177E2:

anyway, if you are not hitting from 20m something is wrong, ive not noticed a problem with the dispersion at 20m, are you sure you were aiming right? or standing next to the forests?

because the CAR-15 was not too good a weapon and only used by air crews and limited use by spec ops, the XM-177 series weapons were used a lot more, but were often called by the generic AR-15 carbine name 'CAR-15', the CAR-15 had many faults, quote from a weapons information site:

Quote
The first carbine version of the M16 assault rifle appeared under the name of CAR-15 in 1965, an was intended for US Special Forces who fought in Vietnam. The original M16 was simply shortened by cutting the half of the lenght of the barrel (from original 20 inches to 10 inches) and by shortening the buttstock by another 3 inches. The butt was plastic and retractable, the handguards were of triangular shape and the flash hider was of original three-prong type. Based on the origunal CAR-15, Colt quickly developed the CAR-15 Air Force Survival Rifle, intended, as a name implied, to serve to downed airplane and helicopter pilots. This version had tubular handguards and metallick tubular buttstock, and fo some reasons the pistol grip was shortened.

Initial combat experience with CAR-15 brought up some problems. First, the carbine was too loud, deafing the firing soldier quite quickly. Second, the muzzle flash was also terrific, blinding the shooter at night and giving avay the position of the shooter to the enemies. Colt partially solved this problem by installing a new, longer flash suppressor. This version, known as the Colt model 609 Commando, also carried new handguards of tubular shape. This model was officially adopted by US ARmy as XM-177E1. This wersion had M16A1-style receiver with forward assist button. In the mid-1967 Colt slightly upgraded the Commando by lenghting the barrel up to 11.5 inches (292 mm), and this version was adopted as XM-177E2.

The XM-177 series saw the most action out of the AR-15 carbines, which is why they are in the pack :)
