Hot LZ Trouble
« on: 08 Nov 2002, 16:27:37 »
I am creating a mission where I will be picking up, and dropping off men into a hot LZ.

The problem I am having is that my gunner seems to rarely shoot at the enemies as the chopper is going in for a landing.  Sometimes he wipes them out (4 men), sometimes he will not shoot at all.  It almost appears that he is confused on which one to shoot at, and decides not to fire at all.

I have the chopper wp set to careless and fire at will.

Also, the chopper does seem to take a bit long to land, and with my gunner not helping, 50% of the time my pilot and gunner are dead when the chopper is 5 feet from the ground.

Thanks in advance,
Rambo

The problem is probably because you have your chopper set to Careless.  That means that they'll ignore enemies and just go on their merry way.

Also note that by allowing your AI-controlled chopper to engage targets, there is a chance that it'll fly around shooting at anything it detects *before* it lands to let out the squad.  So, this may not be what you want to accomplish.

Is there a way to make the chopper land right away AND shoot at the enemies while it's landing?

If I was you I would have the chopper's behaviour set to "careless", and it's combatmode set to "yellow" (Open Fire), as in the attached example...
