Game P3ds - can they be opened in O2?
« on: 26 Oct 2002, 00:39:11 »
I was wondering if there is any way to open the games .p3d files as i was wanting to edit the humvee or put a coaxial MG on the Abrams.

Ive made an M113a1 and a few weapons which i hope to release soon

afraid not, all game models are in ODOL, you can only open the original demo models, which are MLOD.

That was cunning of the little devils at BIS wasn't it?But I think that the abrhams (or maybe the M113) was in the demo, I can vaguely remember seeing a tank trundling across the landscape. And I know that the T72 was in the demo as I've edited the model for that one.

i dont think they were trying to be cunning, it was mainly for file size or for optimization in the game, when they changed to the odol format not only were the tools to edit them not out, the game wasnt even out, so i dont think they had any ulterior motives

[edit: also the major vehicles in mlod format are: M113, T-72, Shilka, BMP, blackhawks, 5t trucks, ural, jeep and uaz)

Is there no way to simply convert the olod back to mlod, or some other usuable model? I mean, they managed to start editing the animations, maybe eventually they'll be able to edit the current models, just a thought.
Or am I completely wrong?

I want to be able to edit the Hind for difference weapon loadouts, and other such stuff, hopefully when they get it fully figured out, the'll let the rest of us know to, but anyway, thanks for that info.
