where might i find the names of said default sounds, the ones that go in the playsound "sound_name" command?

Which sounds?

Environmental sounds and animal sounds etc?

These are all in the Sound.pbo.

superb. also picked up the wss utility so i'm good to go ;)

i forget what a wealth of resources there are within the game folder. must look into it a bit more methinks.  8)
