Ok ok, first things first: The Harrier has nothing to do with america what-so-ever (i know you said we built it but i just want to make this clear). A frenchman came up with the idea in the late forties. A brit made it worked, Its a british design using a british Pegasus engine. Sure now its made in the US under boing but its all british.

I'm not having a go or anything there but A LOT of people seem to think its american.

Right, the Harrier can be made in OFP. Falklands MOD (www.flashpoint1982.co.uk - nice plug huh?!) have a model. The trouble is the flight dynamics. You can have it fly like a chopper or a plane. At the moment you can't switch, so if you want it to fly like a fighter it can't hover. This is why there are none as of yet. If/When this problem is fixed, you'll see one pretty sharpish!

Check out www.flashpoint1982.co.uk and go to the screenshots section for views of the beautiful Sea Harrier by Colonol CLink!

Vyper, I hate to be a downer mate... but the AV-8B Harrier II was entirely redesigned and built by McDonnell Douglas. It is a bit slower than the original, but has twice the range, payload, and a greatly improved weapon system/avionics suite, all of which make it a completly different aircraft. Except for the original concept design, and powerplant- which is still a Rolls Royce- though we chose a more powerful variant for ours. The AV-8B is all American.
BTW, the GR7 is a license built AV-8B Harrier II. The all-British FA2 Sea Harrier, will be retired to make way for the new Harrier II Plus GR9's. All British Harriers will be replaced by the new JSF sometime in the next ten years or so.
A lot of people seem to think it's American because we built quite a few more Harrier II's than Britain had produced of the original Harrier GR3's.
All of the above info can be researched here: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/europe/harrier.htm

Could this be done to make a harrier flight model??

You have config part for a plane for when flying around and a config part thats chopper like when taking off and hover. Then under the pop-up menu you would have a selection that would change between these two. Something like this.
Nozzle down - Would change to Chopper like behaviour.
Nozzle back - Would change to jet like behaviour.
It wont be the easiest way to start the plane with the vertical take off. You would have to start of by tilting the plane forward to gain speed before you switch fly models. But shouldnt be that easy flying it RL.
But could this work? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

I just had a cracking idea, but first off let me say
1. I know the harrier was british and the reason I mentioned the americans was because they enhanced it so they had something to do with it, but remember without the brits u americans wouldn't have had anything to enhance in the first place so the H2 it not a completely new design!
2. Now to my idea: on a chopper there the auto hover, why not change it so when u bring up the option list u see the following:

Auto hover
Fly
eject
etc...

so what I'm saying is change the manual way of flying a chopper to the flying of a plane, I'm no script expect but I'm sure it can be done, and then the auto hover can be the landing.
I for-see only one problem...when switching to fly u have no movement forward really, so could drop like a stone....bummer!

i suggested that one a while back but nobody said if it could be done or not.

Another idea was when the harrier got to, say, 100kph it would switch to helicopter flight mode

I don't know if anyone can find this, but the seagull engine doesn't tilt forward the way that the helicopters do, but it can also hover and so forth, could that possibly be used to make a working vtol?
just a thought

Well untill someone finds a way to make a good working one couldnt someone make a script that could change the vehicle. Like have two pbos one thats like a chopper and one thats like a jet. And use some commands to allow you to select modes from the action menu to switch between the two.
