Lowest Skill for AI
« on: 23 May 2005, 17:09:59 »
I would like to have a mission with a lot of gun fire but little hits.
What is the lowest skill you can set for AI?

In the editor you can use the bar. Left is low skill and right is a high skill.

If i open the mission.sqm file and look for the units i made.
A player with the highest skill in the editor would look like this:

class Item4
{
position[]={1899.537842,45.943695,9506.807617};
id=43;
side="GUER";
vehicle="BAS_GMilitiaAKMHD";
player="PLAYER COMMANDER";
skill=1.000000;

And a player with the lowest skill in the editer would look like this:

class Item3
{
position[]={1824.308838,40.492138,9481.431641};
id=42;
side="GUER";
vehicle="BAS_GMilitiaWAKM";
skill=0.010000;

Now is this the range for AI skill ONLY:
 1.000000 to 0.010000

or

If i make a unit and edit the skill to something like 0.000001 is this an even dumber AI unit or is 0.010000 the lowest you can go?

Lowest skill is normally thought to be zero.   The difference between 0 and 0.01 will not be noticeable.     You might just be able to tell the difference between 0 and 0.1.

Skill doesn't just affect the AI's ability to shoot straight, it also affects their ability to detect you and their rate of fire.   In other words, to achieve the effect you want, 0 skill may not be the optimum number.    0.2, for example, might actually be more fun.   Experiment.

You can also use addon units with HD (high dispersion) weapons for longer firefights.

the skill of AI should always be set within the range 0.2 - 1.0, setting it any lower than 0.2 and youll notice the AI dont respond to enemies, they just stand there and take a beating. as macguba said if you really want a good firefight try high dispersion units, the SEBNAM2 units have just about the right dispersion i find

I think the skill only affects the ability of a soldier to detect other units and not (or at least not notably) the shooting skills. ???

Concerning HD ammo, I would propose using the JAM weapons if you want the standard weapons OFP (and some more).

Thanks for clear up the AI skill. I though it had to do with shoot ablity.

But I am unclear on how the HD or JAM would help? I have those add-ons but I guess I dont really know what they do?

They reduce the accuracy of weapons.

HD - High Dispersion, to you and me that means a larger spread of fire, less accurate, longer firefights
