Helping ur fellow soldier
« on: 07 May 2005, 06:01:32 »
hey guys
wat i was thinking was that wouldnt it b kool if u could make a script that when a fallen comrade falls......u could pick him up and carry him to safety.....or when a man gets wounded and becomes unable to walk or is killed a call to the medic would go out and he would make his way to the soldier and carry him to safety.....like the saying goes..."we never leave a man behind" (im guessing this could probably b done much in the same way a normal cry for help works.....e.g. man gets wounded, cries "injured" over the radio, and the leader of the team tells the medic to support that soldier)........i just think that there should b a more detailed healing system in OFP .........im not suer whether this could b done using the OFP system though.......could someone plz try this coz i suck at scripting and it would b a great addition to the game ;D ;D ;D

First off - everything is possible in OFP !  You just have to specify how realistic (ie complicated) you want it to be.   ;D

For example - I could knock together a script that allowed a unit to pick up a fallen comrade and carry him no probs.  The REAL problem is writing the routine and finding the right animation to make it look and feel right.

Try this - put a trigger on the map called "everyone", activated by "anyone present" and make it 10k on a side.  Now make a script that runs continuously that checks all units returned by "everyone" (ie - everyone !).

If a character is dead or unable to walk then all you have to do is run a routine that calls in a magic medic (create Unit) or directs the nearest friendly to move to the unit.  Once they get there they should do some animation, then either disappear or pick them up and move to some predefined point (perhaps a gamelogic for each side ?).

The picking up bit could be a bit of problem unless there was a good animation that could be used to play on the carried patient.  After that, all you have to do is move the helper to the target casualty clearing station and end the routne.

As I said - easy as, you just need to have right routine and the right animation.

Cheers

i wana see this made, just email me a pick showing me a soldier being carried in the way you want an il give it a shot. :)

It wouldnt be too hard so I should make one for the guy carring him to,

linking scripts are available for ages... Just do those anims ;) script will do the following : set units ( injured and carrier )  to proper animation , then link  injured to carrier with the script like one in the attachment...
Note that injured needs static anim , but  carrier has to be able to walk with your anim.
