changing player control
« on: 20 Jan 2005, 03:46:37 »
Is it possible to change which unit is the player in an MP game?

Basically I want to create a script that allows me to hop from one unit to another and be able take direct control of it (like in Ravenshield).

If it's possible, how would it be done?  There must be a way.  Because when respawn is set to "group" or "side",  when you get killed you switch to another unit.

I've been scanning old posts and haven't found anything on this yet.  Thanks.

I think that it is not possibel unless you kill your player first.  But maybe you could make a scrip that kills your player, respawns you, then setdamage the origianl player to 0 (it might "resurect" as an AI).  Who knows, it is worth a try.  But you still have no way that I know of to control which unit you respawn into.

The talented mission designer MEDICUS used a script that did that in his mission Silencium. You can download the mission (made for the FDF mod) here: fdf.joltan.de/index.php?dl=31

If the player is killed in this mission, the script copies all chracteristics of the unit, deletes the original unit, and creates an identical but heavily wounded replica in the same location that the player respawns into. It is a MP mission.

It should be possible to change the parameters of this script and make the player respawn into a different unit. You can hide the "killed" process in a cutscene.
