most-realistic-ofp-military-ranking-system
« on: 20 Oct 2004, 15:59:47 »
...searched the forum but couldnt find anything to this subject:

What about a "most-realistic-ofp-military-ranking-system" like other
games have it ? The Gaming Veterans of you may remember this all time classic "Pirates" ?
Wasn`t it a nice reward and very motivating to climb up the ranks from sailor (?) to gouvenor (?). As far as i know the majority of Online-Gamer-Communitys have one too ?

As i`m not into programming or scripting etc., i don`t know how to implement this
system, but it may also could be done with an extra tool or something like this ?

The simple idea:

A most realistic military Ranking for OFP-Gamer as possible in OFP.
It`s just for fun, realism, long time motivation and you can compare with other
ofp-gamers.

It could be based on:

   - OFP Scores accumulated of all missions completed
   - OFP Scores of a defined list of top-rated user-missions
   - own measurement of completed objectives, casualties, kills etc.

Is there anything like this out there already ?
Your comments and thoughts are welcome !

cheers,
gambla

Well, one of the big things limiting OFP from having really, really cool MP stuff (like your suggestion) is that you can't save to or load from files. So I don't see any way to implement a "ladder system" (I think its usually called that) like that, short of having server admins manually type in player's scores into some external database.

thanks for your reply, general. yes, couldn`t imagine i`m the first one with that idea. so let`s see the interest of others in this, if it`s worth the work to build an extra database.  ???

Adding the ability to save scores would take about 10mins. Full guide due out in..... oh about 2 weeks??

In the meantime, sign up as an Associate, Developer, or Beta Tester to get quicker access to our stuff and propose your ideas.

Good to hear it's still in development... I kept waiting and waiting... hoping it would be finished.   Excellent to see your still around.

hehe.. Is anything ever finished?

lol. Yeah, I nearly fried my brain getting SOW 99% complete. So I took a much needed vacation. Anyway, Rune took over Lead Development and is doing great working out that last 1% of bug hunting. He put together a nice demo and we are currently testing it. Anyways,.. since he is working on the majority of SOW. I might slap together a "Ladder" saving system using an extract of SOW. I figure this might help those running public servers or clan servers. Unfortunately, it would mean adding it to all missions and recompiling them. Don't know if anyone is up for that task, so maybe I'll do it based on request?

Anyone out there willing to put together a series of missions for tournament style play?? (They can be old or new) If so, I'll make the 'Save' portion of it!
