Side Change

Although there is probably already stuff regarding changing sides of units, it is easier to have another thread based on this subject rather than dig through mountains of topics. This is just my way, and you could probably figure it out yourself if you wanted to put forth the effort or just messing around with the grouping tool. With this technique and correct use of group ungroup commands, you can have two East guys kill eachother, civies fight the west, whatever:
-Create a unit with rank colonel on the side you want your "real" unit to be on. Create this unit in the water and set his health to zero, or not. Either way just make him in the water so the player (or players) don't stumble upon the body.
-Create your "real" unit whereever you wanted him, set his properties to "none" (or he'll spawn in the water), and make sure he is NOT the squad leader (why you made your water unit a colonel), and group him with the water unit. Now the AI will act as if this unit is the side you set your "water unit" to. Remember that rule: the side of the group leader is the side of the entire group. Now, you can even get the West teams and East teams to work together!

If you use waypoints such as "join and lead" or use the ungroup scripts, you can easily make units switch sides in the field!

Hola amigos I'm back!

Anyways, wouldn't dis be in the FAQ?

Or you could use the search tool, even if it is somewhat useless sometimes. And it couldn't hurt to ask.

This little trick has been common knowledge for some time, although you can simplify things even more by simply putting deletevehicle this in the highly-ranked soldier's init field - he'll be deleted completely and then it won't matter where you place him.

There's also a more "rough" way to do this. Open the Mission.sqm, find the unit, and just change his side. It's a little more difficult, but then you'll see the unit as the opposite site - the game actually thinks the unit is from the other side... although I cannot argue about the technical aspect, you get the idea, if you're interested, try toying around with this. Personally, I find it less confusing. But then again, the other thing is easier.

I post this trick more days than not.    It's even easier than that:  just set the probability of presence of the Colonel to 0.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

yeah, this all works fine and dandy, cept that when you play the mission as one of these loons when you have "switched" sides, you have the unit number of 2 in ur squad if you know what I mean.

thats why all should change the misson.sqm when the player is to cange sides....

unless u can fix that.

Why change the mission.sqm, its confusing sometimes to pinpoint certain units and its just easier to deletevehicle or probabilty of presecnce to 0 some dude like Seal84 and Macguba said...

edit: and for no #2s, make the guy you're delteing, a higher rank then the dude you're not deleteing. :P

no, when i want to be the m8 that's changed sides, and I deleteVehicle his leader, then you still end up as no. 2.

I have to change the mission.sqm to have the player whose side was changed be the no. 1 of his group...

is dat clear now? (not tryin to sound agressive, im askin a q)
