Benchmark
« on: 08 Aug 2004, 17:06:50 »
Hellöw,

I'm using the benchmark command to see if I can fit in some eye candy but I have no idea what is a high benchmark and what is a low benchmark. When should I start removing? Cheers!

Modern midrange systems have 4000-- 6000 points.
-->2 Ghz/2000+ proc  and GF4 Ti \ Radeon 9700   or higher

1 Ghz Procs with GF2 has around 2000.

Keep in mind that its a OFP benchmark  ;D,some results are unexplainable...

Changing proc from 2500+ to 3200+ has no influence,AF and FSAA filters are not measured.

6880?? Strewth Armstrong what do you have in your machine?

I have a 3.2 GHz, 1Gbt RAM and a 256Mbt Radeon 9800XT and it benchmarks at 4000.

Now I am totally confused.  I would not have expected this difference in benchmark results from these specs.

What does the benchmark command actually measure?

And what did you do change it?  I have tried shutting down the other users on my machine, changing the settings in OF but nothing I do changes the benchmark from 4000.  Am I checking it correctly?  I use

Code: [Select]
player sidechat Format["benchmark = %1",benchmark]

I get different results from checking benchmark without doing anything except hitting the buttons in Flashpoint Preferances.

My old comp had a benchmark of about 750.    The Resistance campaign was playable, but only just.    That was a PII 400Meg.

1500 is probably about right for being really fierce:  you could put in another level at about 4000.    Use variables in the condition of presence fields, then all you need to do is set the variable in init.sqs.   Makes it easier to play with different levels.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

Do your current settings have a role in benchmark?

What I'm saying is, maybe his is "artificially inflated," like, if he's got it set to no shadows, 800X600X16. ;)

Greets. Im a noob at OFP editing, but im very experiened when it comes to computer hardware and Systems. I myself run a 3gig HT P4 with gig 400ns ram and  a Radeon 9800XT and my HDs are set on  raid, my OS  XP pro has been optimised for gaming via tweaking the Services,  This is my Gaming box. I cant get much over 4000 benchmark IN a setting profile of  1280 x768x32bit at 75 hrtz refresh. i can prop that up to near 6000  at a profile of  1024x768x16 bit at 60 hrtz. Armstrong im baffled that you BM at anything like 7000+, Especially with a GF4 MX 128meg, considering that the main diff in 128vs 256 meg vid cards is the ability of the 256  card to run High bit colour   much faster than the 128, both cards will perform  roughly the same at 16 bit  but at 32 bit the 256 card runs away from the 128.
Thobson, you may want to   look at your swap file to improve performance somewhat, i set my virtual memory manually  i set both max and min memory at the same ammount and as a general rule of thumb it is set at 2.5 times the amount  of ram.
Sory to ramble guys  BUT finally a thread on this forum that i know something about.

Thanks.  I am ok living with a bm of 4000 so far.  Just an excuse for me not fidling with the swap file manually.  I will add it to the list of things to look at later though.

I wonder if the bm actually tells us much of use anyway.  Armstrong you have a score very much higher than mine, but some time ago you were a bit critical of one of my missions, for amongst other things, the amount of lag.  But it is a mission I can play with no problem.

So does anyone really know what the bm score gives us?

I believe the benchmark result is how quickly everything communicates with one another.... so processors with a large front side bus speeds, like the HT P4's and the new 64 bit processors, do quite well. I don't think the amount of RAM or video memory size has all that much to do with it.
