Errors
« on: 17 May 2004, 04:29:54 »
I am having some problems with third party missions, that played fine initially and now they aren't.  Perhaps I have made some other changes but I don't know what.  Basically the error boxes show up during the mission load up- saying things like " cannot load mission- missing editor 102" or "missing add-on such and such".   Most missions still load up, but several stopped working. However, I have all required add ons?!!  The only thing I can think of is that I have installed an editor upgrade 1.11 and this is causing a conflict-
Any advice?  Also, I read in Kegetys read- me file that to solve some problems, old missions made with the old gunslinger editor  should be opened in the Mission Editor and then resaved to make them work properly- how do I do that????

thanks-

You might want to try the BIS forum's troubleshooting section since OFPEC is mainly an editing site. But anyway, those errors might be caused by the addons being corrupt. Some missions might say that it's missing an addon that it dosn't even use. Mabey try reinstalling those addons to fix the problem.

Greetings,

Yes, editor upgrades do conflict with each other. To get the missions to work again, try:
You have two editor upgrades installed, 102 and 111 (or something similar). Find the newest one (111 - the one which you installed most recently) and change the file extention from .pbo to .pbx (or something different). Then OFP will stop recognising it as an addon, untill you rename it back to .pbo.
Remember to rename it correctly after you have finished playing the old missions. Note that you will have to restart your PC [EDIT: Mental Abberation, sorry. Just restart OFP] every time you remove/ add a new addon. Only ever have one editorUpgrade active at any one time.

And now the editing stuff:
Kegetys advice to reopen old missions in the editor and then resave them is intended mostly for the creators of the original missions. If you have created any missions using the first EditorUpgrade, then this is the course of action for you to follow.

Hey PsyWarrior

Why do you recommend restarting the PC after installing/uninstalling an addon
Thanks

Yes, I would like to know too... ;)
Restarting OFP should be sufficient...

After all, copy/paste does not write anything into registry...

Sorry. I meant 'Restart OFP' not restart your PC.

But I don't know what I'm doing at the moment, so you'll have to bear with me... ::)
