I'm a keen and current skydiver in New Zealand and for sometime now I've wanted (with no experience at all!)(typical) to create a skydive simulator/game, but known it would take years of study and employment to even get an idea that I have looked at by a game developer. (seriously)
But!....HELLO OpFlashpoint! (A game engine that allows modification)..Next thing is for me to start learning how to mod, script and develop a mod for OFP or OFP2. Thing is, will this game engine allow me to create a new 3D environment off the ground with other mulitplayer gamers?
I'm seeking anyone who has experimented or examined the capability of OFP game engine if it would allow such a group of players to hurl themselves from a aircraft, complete a series of 'docked' (linked) formations with other gamers in freefall, deploy and allow the gamer to fly a proper modern ramair canopy to the ground, repack and go up again!
?
Yes, I've seen and played recently with the skydiver addon..yew..but it's a start i suppose. But Well done all the same. Didn't know skydivers came with an AK47! Yikes! I only managed to get an aircraft up to 3,500 before it started not liking the altitude. 5,000 would have been nice.
What can we or I do from here?? I've got ideas, but want to see if this OFP game engine is what it's cracked up to be. Yes, I know it's a military game engine, so a civillian modification should be somewhat simple?
Any ideas, suggestions, links to other sites and any pointers would be appreciated.
