Dragging/pick-up soldier?
« on: 18 Apr 2004, 06:02:05 »
I am sure it was mentioned and i have searched with no results but OFP really needs a grabbing movement or something. I am in the us army and our warriors ethos says I will never leave a fallen commrade......with this being said...if there is no medic to heal the wounded soldier....can't we somehow pick up or drag a teammate...has this been made. I mean i understand how complicated it could be but could we somehow modify the game so that when the healty teammember walks up to him, presses grab, then the game makes the person healed for the time and animations show him on his back or something? Anyone know if this will be in ofp2. I would love to know.It hurts me to know it is essintial to move up into position to live but my soldier will die if I leave him! :-(

As far as I know, there is no such thing as of yet. I am no addon maker, but as new weapons are added to OFP on a regular basis, why not make this an option? Using a script, add a "Carry Body" option to the players action menu whenever he is near a dead body of his side.

As soon as he uses it, the body would have to be displaced (0,0,0) and a weapon, carried on back (much like LAW and AT-Launchers) would be added to the players menu. He would have to drop his LAW etc. however. If he then decides to "drop body", the victiim would be moved to the location and the weapon would be deleted from his inventory.

I am afraid, there would not be any carrying the wounded, though, at least I cannot think of a way to implement this.

As a mission-maker or scripter, however, you could monitor your soldiers and have a "heroic rescue attempt" as soon as someone was unable to stand up anymore, meaing a couple of helos coming in low and fast and fending off the attackers long enough for the wounded to crawl to the medevac.

But I am afraid, that would get pretty much "worn out".

And I can feel what you feel. We also undertake every effort, and might it cost our lives, to rescue a wounded or dead firefighter.

It is all about respect, trust and friendship. Whoever does not understand this should stay out of military, police, ems or firefighter business.

Cheers

As a Marine, I know what you mean. I hate getting my AI buddies killed, and having to leave their bodies behind for the enemy  :'( .

This may be implemented in the ECP, if I can get the animations to work properly. However, I don't know if I will be able to make an automatic 'use' for it; meaning it may just let you move corpses around, but nothing else. The exact use for it may be up to mission designers who use the ECP.

hi,
there is a drag scrip, and quite a good one imho.
it was made by kuro, i think you can get it in the ed depot. if not, grab his seals in nam mission, depbo it and grab the relevant scripts.

I think what he wanted was an ANIMATION of the dragging soldiers thing.

Correct me if im wrong.

Well, an anmation is no good without a script to use it with.
