Help with Editing mission.sqm
« on: 13 Mar 2004, 04:33:28 »
I'm very new to editing but have played around with the missions that were shipped with OFP and Resistance.  I know how to use DePBO to unpack the mission files and run DeSqm on the mission.sqm files.  From there I usually edit the files with a text editor adding enemies and or using an addon for the player with new weapons.

The problem I am having is view mission.sqm files that others have provided on this site.  I can download them and play them but when I run DeSqm on them the file is a bunch of numbers with the # sign in front of them.  I thought it was asiic text but the number range is too high (over 128) so I'm not sure what I am looking at.

Please help.  The only way to learn new stuff is to see what others are doing.  The files seem to be readable by the engine even in this form but I don't have a clue what they say.

Thanks.

What format do you get the missions in?

If it is a zip file then all you need to do is unzip the zip file and look at any mission.sqm in Notepad.  No need for DeSqm.

I have no idea what a DeSqm program eve is. What are you supposed to do with it? I mean, the sqm file is already a plain text file, there's nothing to De or Un about it :D

Use Amalfi's unpbo 1.5 from the Editors Depot to de-pbo stuff, whether user missions or official ones.   It does everything you need in one go and is very easy to use.

Older unpbo utilities used to spit out an encrypted mission.sqm, which then had to be decoded.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

I picked up the PBO decryptor (Amalfi) in the Util section and everything looks great.  Not to mention, 1 click and everthying is unpacked and decrytped.  I guess I have been using some old utils that I downloaded over a year ago.

thanks for your help.  Off to mission editing.
