Looking for info on cutobj, cutrsc, titlersc
« on: 24 Feb 2004, 17:02:19 »
I'm trying to script some camera effects that involve a background image with changing text and changing small images over the top of a background.

I've read the tutorial by Devil Dawn (http://faqs.ofp-editing.de/tutorials/ressourcen.html) but it was electronically translated to English so some of it just doesn't make much sense.

It covers creating things that can be used as cutrsc and titlersc, but not cutobj.

When I try to put a titlersc over the cutrsc, it works but the titlersc only stays on the screen for an instant eventhough the duration is set for several seconds.

For now, I've settled with just swapping large cutrsc images instead but that is inefficient.

I'd rather learn more about creating cutobj and using cutrsc and rsctitles correctly than solving this particular problem.

Does anyone know of a resource for that type of information?

There is a great resource called the OFPEC forums  :o

Seriously, do a search of the forums, search back 999999 days, and you will find tons of info. I know 'cause I just did this myself a couple days ago, on this very same topic. As a general note, always search the forum before requesting info :). If you still can't find what you need to know, then post, but chances are your questions will already have been answered, or you will have narrowed your question down to something more specific.

I don't want to sound harsh, but really it will work out better for you and everyone else that way 8)

I Goolged like a freaking maniac and found only that one site.   And thought I had searched these forums thoroughly.

However, I didn't realize the search on these forums is by default limited to the past 60 days.  My mistake.

In general,  I never ask a question if I haven't  thoroughly researched all  the available sources.   I claim victimhood of search page option-overload!

Thank you for pointing that option out, this helps immensely.

I suppose I deserved your tone, as it does seem that I've made pretty n00bish error.

Again thanks for the tip, back to the scriptage.

Excellent, that first thread linked to the fabled "Vektorboson" tutorial.   I'll dig through that.  That appears to be exactly what I was looking for general information wise.   Thanks much!

And  I just found  a critical clue about my specific (though  not very well explained) problem.    Sui points out:

Quote
OFP uses two 'channels' to place resources/text/fade ins/outs.

Title and Cut.

You can have two sets of text/pictures or whatever on the screen at the same time.

...cut is the background channel, and title the foreground channel...

I'll read on

[EDIT] I read on, Sui's tip confirmed what my previous trial and error had proved but I was still getting titlersc's blinking off instantly.    Turns out that putting playsound before or after titlersc cancels the titlersc.   Odd.

Now that it's gone this far, it occurs to me that this thread should be in cutscenes.   Oh well.
