New Tutorial Here - Making your first addon!
« on: 15 Sep 2002, 22:35:50 »
Hi.

After my problems with my first addon:

"Crate from Hell"
http://www.ofpec.com/yabbse/index.php?board=47;action=display;threadid=1527

I decided to make a step-by-step tutorial on how to make this addon. NewBies that have read the o2 inferface tutorial and are ready to try to make their own basic addon should read it. Its at my page:

http://www.geocities.com/brsseb/index.html

NOTE: Uploaded the site today & its probably LOADED with typo`s. Also its lacking pictures but they will come tomorrow. Feedback: brsseb@hotmail.com

You could do with adding a little info on the paths of your textures.

You didn't seem to CNTL + texture name (in side window), press E and put crate/ infront of the texture name.pac so I would like to know where everything was.

(my guess would be c:\crate\*.*   if buldozer was in c:\)

Nice work though (and you were right about the typos) :)

Hi. The site is back online it seems. Strange that. And nearly 200 hits already! Nice. Anyway, the site is also found here, in cas the  geocities version proves unreliable.

ofp.info are going to put my tutorial on their server since the free web site geocities.com seems pretty unreliable. It should be on the ofp.info servers by  tomorrow

I can't get the mass thingy to work, to add mass to it. It worked when I did the crate, but now I'm doing an Oil Rig and I do what you say in the tutorial, but it doesn't work!

(also, I can't do the "save selection" thingy)

Hi

What do you mean you cant do the "Save selection" thing? Make sure you have found the Named Selection window (Alt+T). Select all (Ctrl+A), right mousebutton in the named selection window and select "new". Check out the o2 menues and familiarize yourself with the program before starting to model anything.

Oxygen is a very basic 3d program. Programs like Milkshape, Lightwave, Maya and 3ds max are far better programs. I used to model in Maya and my first impression of Oxygen was that it was pure crap. But once you take the time and learn the relative simple interface you`ll see that it is more than enough for modelling addons for OFP.

If you can, use another better 3d program and then export. It will save you some time (and some frustration). But you dont really need a more advanced program than Oxygen to make great addons (after all, its mostly about placing vertrices, making faces and texturing).

One thing I haven't seen out as far as tutorials is concerned is ones about turret type addons, missiles, and descriptions of LOD's.  Can someone leaves some links to info that might be useful for this.  Thanks.
