Spot the mistake ...
« on: 20 Jan 2004, 00:04:25 »
... I have been trying to fix this for so long now that I am on the verge of eating my own head.  My knowledge of html is pretty limited so I might be missing something obvious, but please, take a look at this briefing and tell me if you can work out WHY there would be an enormous gap on the second page.

When I use it the first page of the briefing is fine (and so are the notes).  On page 2 I get a couple of lines of text at the top, then a half page gap with one line of text underneath and the four objectives at the bottom.  If you click the arrow to turn to page 3 you get page 2, with no objectives, no big gap and all the remaining text on.  At this point the objectives have disappeared forever and cannot be recovered!

I have totally amputated the briefing in case it was somehow too long so it might read kind of odd.

I'm hoping we can hit Ivan hard enough and fast enough to cripple those helo's - or kill the pilots - before he can get them airborne and use them against us. Once we've spiked the ADA we can call in Team Juliet who will ingress by Blackhawk and provide as much aerial support as they can while we make a systematic sweep of the island.  Once all enemy personnel have been eliminated they will put down and commence their phase of the operation.

<hr><p><a name="Plan"></a>
Intelligence indicates that the enemy has established a forward arming and refuelling point on a <a href="marker:helibase">small island</a> to the East of Everon. The decision has been taken to neutralise this asset and occupy the island. You are to lead a dawn commando raid to accomplish this. <br>
<br>The operation is to be conducted from a <a href="marker:field hospital">field hospital</a> on the Everon coast.  Your strike team has been assembled on <a href="marker:Rendezvous">the jetty</a> with a fast attack boat, which you must man and pilot to the target area.  Upon reaching <a href="marker:helibase">the island</a> you are to prosecute the attack as best you see fit. The island has no civilian presence and all contacts may be assumed hostile.<br>
<br>Your primary objective is to neutralise the helicopters operating from the island. Radar emissions indicate that air defence artillery is also present. This must be eliminated to permit the approach of Team Juliet, comprising an airborne squad of Engineers with orders to prepare the site for use by friendly aircraft. Finally, the island must be purged of hostile personnel preparatory to Team Juliet's insertion.

<p><a name="OBJ_1"></a>Destroy all enemy helicopters
</p><hr>

<p><a name="OBJ_2"></a>Destroy any ADA vehicles
</p><hr>

<p><a name="OBJ_3"></a>Protect Team Juliet
</p><hr>

<p><a name="OBJ_4"></a>Liquidate all hostiles
</p><hr>

<hr><br><h2><p><a name="Debriefing:End1">Mission Accomplished</a></p></h2><br><p>The island is clear of hostiles and Team Juliet is down and safe.  Good work Captain.</p><br>

<hr><br><h2><p><a name="Debriefing:End2">Mission Aborted</a></p></h2><br><p>Team Juliet has sustained casualties and is to withdraw from the operation.  Mission failed.</p><br>

All help gratefully received!

Man, I've been trying to fix this and I have had no luck.  I even tried cutting and pasting just the text into a known working file but I get the same error.

I do have one suggestion.  Make it so the objectives are on the first page.  That way, you don't have change pages each time you want to check your objectives.

You can always put hyperlinks on the first page to jump to the other pages.  It will make it less cluttered looking and might fix this problem.

i had the same problem, i just figured it was an ofp issue

now that i think of it, u could depbo someone else's mission (where the error doesnt occur) and see what they did differently...

I did compare it to one of mine that was working and it looked ok.    However I know nothing about html.    I have had this problem myself in the past ... naturally I can't remember how it was solved except that I suspect it's just how things are.

deaddog is right:   have a first page that has one short paragraph and the objectives, and then use links to other pages for the rest.    For a simple example of this read snYpir's tute or get the Tutorial Mission from the Editors Depot and copy the one in there.  The link to the other page is only one line, just like the link to a marker.

Don't put a link back to the Plan page:  there is an OFP bug which causes the objectives to disappear.   The player can just click on the Plan tab anyway.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

Yeah it's an OFP problem.  Notice that all BIS briefings are tiny and fit on one page - long briefings aren't supported.

Sui in particular has nice breifings with multiple seperate pages - that's the way to do it.  In fact he let me rip his template for one of my own projects...it works very well and looks nice.

Okey dokey, thanks fellers.  Will incorporate links and hopefully that'll fix it. :-*
