afaik theres no way to attach addons to the missions, is it because OFP looks in the addons folder for the addons (strange, isn't it)

but i hope BIS will make this in OFP2...would make a lot easier......

but otherwise.....even a 1meg map takes a hell till it's loaded so try to imagine same map with 20 megs of addons......launch now, play tomorrow

That's because MP makers don't think of the players. "Now I'll add custom music and sound and pics to the brieifng and all other crap that takes space". I hate downloading for 10 minutes druing a MP game just 'cause some1 could add their squad/clan pic in the briefing. Take note MP makers.

I make custom Co-oP maps and unfortunately to get quality one MUST use addons as some of the stock BIS stuff is pants. I get a lot of people complaining that it takes too long to download but I sacrifice downloading annoyance for quality maps. I could go into one about how much is wrong with stock units but I won't.

Rate of Fire is one of the many things that is out and out wrong in the BIS units. Being a realism fanatic I cannot have an AK that fires at 300 RPM. Just ruins the feeling for me.

a possible way to get around this prob with dling the map for 10 mins or more ingame....get some free webspace (freewebs.com just to name 1, there are others and maybe better around), put your map and needed addons for downloading and make peeps dling the map before you go into game....i made this with my map which is >900kb. Dling in game: about 20 mins or even more...dling from website: a few seconds and a min to move it into MPMissions folder.

About realistic Fire Rate: i think BIS had to choose if they will make it realistic or fairly balanced for east and west....try to imagine the advantage west would have with m16 against east with AK's....well, just guessin, but i think BIS decided to make almost same fire rate for both weapon to ensure no side gets an advantage....my opnion.

Well, answer a) = no - there's no way to integrate
addons into missions as you would like to do.

That means: if a mission requires an addon, the clients
who want to take part have to have installed these addons
already, when launching their game.

OK, now my feelings for the response in this thread:

I think Mikey13021 already countered well here with:

download the map, before ingame downloading, to prevent
you from "10 minute downloading during the game"

User's fault if not done before, and even if the user has to
download for 10 minutes, this will only happen ONCE, as long
as nobody renames the mission to let it fit into any unofficial
OFP naming conventions.

Yeah, you already got the point:

why should you AUTOMATICALLY download stuff, without any
chance to decide wether you want that or not.
20 megs may be even nothing, compared to stuff like:

the WG addpack (120 mb) + GAIA island

(soz if the makers of this gettin upset now, but i've just tried
to name this one for gettin a big file example into here)

AFAIK - the best maps were still made with the use of official
addons, so there's no "MUST use addons" (no offense meant)

A good mission does really really not require the use of addons,
but i still understand what you wanna say here.

CD's last comments here:

do not use addons, as long as you don't need them

This rule does exist as a general rule in real life, since human
being started thinking IMHO

"do not, what you don't need to do to get something to work
as it is"

OR shorter:

"never change a running system"  ;D

=

effficiency

Now don't forget that there will always be people, who think:

that if they do add some stuff to the basics, other's will not
see the mistakes, they made on the real basic stuff.

(soz, but i can't really tell you this sentence in english words,
as german is my primary language)

In german it means: verschönern/verherrlichen/verzieren/von
den eigenen Schwächen ablenken
