MP Map continually crashing..
« on: 27 Dec 2003, 16:34:32 »
Hi guys..

I have this MP Map that as created a while back by myself and a friend... let me just say that we both had different versions of OFP-R whilst building this mission, we swopped versions making small adjustments et cetera..

The problem is that whenever i try playing it in Multiplayer, it ALWAYS crashes back to desktop and i have to re-start OFP - OFP-R... there is not set time at when it crashed , it maybe 5 seconds or 5 minutes..

What i want ot know is what do you think is causing this ? Is it the fact that it was created with two different version of OFP-R ?? or osmehting else ?

Should this be over at www.flashpoint1985.com or here ??

Regards

Rhys

How long is a piece of string??

Although it may appear to be a randon crash

1) Does it crash when a particular script is executed (EG vehicle respawn script)
2) Or a particular vehicle/weapon is used
3) Or when somebody respawns
4) Or if somebody reaches a certain location

There will be a pattern in their somewhere, even though at first it may not be obvious.

First thing to do is try re saving the game in the latest OFP version that the server you play on runs

Then make a log of who was where doing what when it crashed

WTF has this got to do with a MP Map crashing ??? ???

No there is no pattern obvious at this time.. it is in the BETA stage so i am testing it out on my own - with the "PLAYABLE" characters as ......

I have resaved the map twice in my current version on OFP (1.91) and still to the same effect :(

I used the phrase "how long is a piece of string" as a subtle hint  to show  how open your question was

Obviously too subtle!

I could follow the hint  ;)

rhysduk - still not enough being able to help you here

probably you could try to reproduce that by creating another
map with two different versions, just to see if that was the
reason.

If so, you would do right with goin to BIS forum with that.

In your first post you were asking for: what can cause this
random crashes

Terox seems not having experienced the version problem
yet, so he came with the remaining options, which can
cause random crashes.

I would have done it same way as Terox did.

not sure if this will help but you may have too much stuff going on at any given time, i have a pretty good comp setup and get this problem every now and then, if its happening way after you've gone and killed a ton of peeps try and use a "dead body delete" function, i'm now figuring out how to do it so I can't help ya there, sry,  hope I could point you in the right direction.
