Choppers, height and waypoints
« on: 18 Nov 2003, 18:08:01 »
Hello all,

I'm a brand new owner of OFP,and I already got a question. Before posting, I searched the Forum, but it really seems I'm the only one to know such a phenomen.

When I define waypoints for a AI controled chopper, it all works fine, but if I define an altitude for flying, using FlyInHeight command, above 130meters, then things go worse. It seems that the pilot never reaches the next waypoint flying at that height (and of course never goes to the next one). The chopper spins round and round forever, like trying to reach it, but it doesn't happen.

As a proof, if I order something to happen on activation of that waypoint, it never does. That happens, if I'm in Cargo, or if I'm looking that from the ground. And that doesn't happen with planes, however the height is defined to be. For info, I got OFP GOTY, upgraded to 1.91.

For another info, I passed this through by using triggers (that works, strange isn't it ?) and the domove command, but although, I'm a bit curious.

And at last, sorry for my strange English, I'm a bit french too :)

Thx fro all.

A common bug with a simple solution, just use triggers to move the chopper to its next waypoint (there are many ways to do this)

Many thanks.

I had already made it wrk with triggers actually, but I was looking for a way to solve the bug. Now I'm almost happy that it is a bug, and that it is common (I wasn't able to find another topic for that sorry), because I found myself really thnking I was doing something wrong.

Now I feel intelligent again :)) so thank you again.

NB : You're right, triggers work fine but as a beginner, I really don't find it easy using 3d coordonates for a precise destination. Guess it will come with experience. I cheat by using waypoints, and editing the mission file to note the coordonates then deleting the waypoints and using coordonates in the Domove command... another idea ?

you can always use a Game Logic instead of finding the coordinates and have your chopper move to the game logic

Great !!!

That sounds great and easy to do. I'm gonna try this as soon as I'll find some info on that stuff. Many thanks to you and your knowledge guys (for that question and all the ones I didn't have to ask cause the answer was existing yet)
