Stupid Script Idea 101 - Time Machine !
« on: 09 Oct 2003, 01:32:24 »
Okay, so maybe I've been playing with the skipTime command too much - so sue me !   :beat:

How about this - place an abject on the map, say a jeep (ideally it would be an early 60's police box or a 1980's DeLorean !) ;D

Now record the objects starting position and then make a script that looks something like this -

#loop

<get vehicles speed("velocity" command plus trigonometry)>
<feed the vehicle speed into a skipTime command, with an appropriate coefficent so that (say) 10kph = 1 day per second>
< reset the vehicles position back to its start position>
~0.1

goto "loop"

Because you are resetting the vehicle's position once every 0.1 second the vehicle animation will tend to jump and skip.  Keep it - it should actually add to the effect !

Note that because of the continuous position reset the vehicle won't actually go anywhere, but the faster you "drive" the faster time will progress.

Best of all - chuck it in reverse and watch time go backwards !

ANOTHER IDEA ! - Rig the script so that the vehicle DOES move and time doesn't start to pass until the vehicle goes above 100 kph !  (Where is Michael J Fox when you need him !)

BTW - I have absolutely NO EFFIN IDEA what this could ever be useful for !   :-\

(Maybe the start of a scenario in which the players have to go back in time to stop an assassination . . . ?)   :gunman:

Cheers all !

Another stupid idea! Well, you may as well lock this yourself, before a moderator does.

m21man,

No matter how silly an idea may sound to you, do not post rude and unconstructive opinions.

Continue to do so, and you'll only earn yourself a warning then a ban.

And yes, this idea is not within the realm of realism that is required for posts, so I'm afraid it must be locked.
