Ammo truck for tanks ?
« on: 10 Sep 2002, 19:19:05 »
Hi Everybody,
Noobee here.  First of all Operation Flashpoint is a fantastic game.  Secondly the official documentation for the editor is pathetic.  Now that I've got that off my chest.

I put an ammo truck on the map.  But it won't rearm a tank.
How do you get a truck that will rearm tanks?

The trucks don't actually do the re-arming, they just sit there and let it happen.

If its a player controlled tank you need to get up close behind the ammo truck and you will get a rearming option on your action menu.    Rearming does take a few seconds to complete, the SABOT rounds are "loaded" one at a time - you can watch the number ticking up in the top left of your screen.

If you want to rearm a tank in your squad order him to go close to the truck, then look at his action menu (something like F4 then 6 I think) and there will be an option "rearm at ammo truck".

AI controlled groups generally look after themselves - they certainly will rearm if the group leader feels the need and there is a truck nearby.    Give the truck a "Support" waypoint and AI leaders (and  you) can call it from all over the map.

Hope that sorts it out.    And yes, I think we all agree with both your points ...

PS - welcome to the forums!

Thanks for replying to my post.  After reading it I went back into the editor and tried again.  I found that there is a bug/feature that won't let the tank rearm.  What I had done was place a tank on the map and set the ammunition slider all the way left, that is, no ammunition.  With the tank in that state there was no option to rearm even when the tank was right behind the ammo truck.  The trick was to move the slider one small notch to the right.  This gave the tank 1 round of heat.  Then when I was behind the ammo truck the rearm option appeared as normal.  So even though I would have preferred the tank completely empty of ammo to start with, I can live with it having just one round.

So I guess if you want to make a tank that can't be rearmed then just put the ammo slider all the way left.

Oh yes, and about the official doco for the editor being bad.  I know that people have got by and struggled to make their own missions, but how much quicker the user base would have grown if Bohemia Interactive had put out a comprehensive editor guide.  I'm sure I could winge for longer, but.

Bye for now.

Glad I could help.   There are some good tutorials on this site at least.     There is also a tutorial in the game

Start/Programs/Codemasters/OperationFlashpoint/Readme

and click on the editor tab.   It's not that good though, and has a couple of important typos.     I bought the Gold upgrade and the strategy booklet that came with that had some useful stuff at the back, but all in all I totally agree with you.

If you mark this topic as "Answered" then snYpir can turn it into a FAQ.
