Add stuff to briefing In-Game?
« on: 04 Oct 2003, 16:26:28 »
Hi! I have this problem. Dunno if you even can do it but it would be great if you could.

I have this mission, and when you aquire some secret files you can read them via a hyperlink in your notes section. Can this be done?

Cheers!

Yes.  No.

Well, sort of.     You know about objStatus "hidden", right?   Well just put the link in an objective which is hidden at the start of the mission and revealed at the appropriate moment.     I know it's not ideal.     Phrase the objective wording so that you can tick it straight away.   For example

Access secret files

with the link embedded in the text.    I haven't been able to think of any other way of hiding and revealing stuff.    Don't forget that you can hide an existing objective at the same time as revealing another, so that it appears one replaces the other.

Hey, wait, I just came up with an idea! Is there a way to via a script access the briefing?

For example:

You get the files, and you now got in your action menu/radio menu a "Read The File" option. If you press it/radio it the briefing will come up with a hidden section that can only be accessed via the radio/action menu. Is there a way to do this?

You could create the file as a kind of picture.  Define it in description.ext and so on, then access it via the action or radio menus.

Or you could have the file as a long hint/titletext, which appeared whenever you called it by action  menu or radio.

Hmmm... the pic seems good, I can write the text in a different notes tab, take a screen shot and voila!... now I've never done any resources myself, could you hand me a tute? It's basicly the same as dialouge's ain't it?

Cheers!

This may or may not be what you want but try this:

Add "READ FILES" via a radio command (or addAction if in MP).

Hide it, (shows only when needed)

Use a script that opens a dialog that uses the notepad object.

It is very EASY and I could help you with it. You can even make several "pages" that you can turn to. Then you can even make links in the notepad that run other scripts.
