Syncing Triggers and waypoints
« on: 25 Sep 2003, 14:53:36 »
:gunman:Tyger:gunman:
Howdy everyone.
I've got a big problem, and I was wondering if someone could help me fix it.
When ever I sync a trigger to a waypoint, the trigger will activate, but the units won't continue on to their net waypoint. Can any one help me here?:help:

Sounds like you did all right, off what you wrote here.

You need to post step by step, what you did and how
you did, to get some further help here.

Well, my mission was to have a M113 unit, a squad, an M1Abrahms platoon, and the player's squad to all move down a valley into the FUP.

I created the waypoints into the FUP and in each activation line, wrote squadname_in_FUP = 1.

Then I created a trigger and in the condition box entered: squadname_in_FUP == 1 for each of the four squads.

I finally synced all the waypoints in the FUP to the trigger so the squads wouldn't attack until eveyone was there.

Finally I tested the game, and my squad was the last to arrive. We set off the trigger, but the other squads didn't continue on to their Seek & Destry waypoints.

I checked the trigger, waypoints, the whole nine yards, and it was all perfect.

I even created a much simpler mission to test the trigger and see if it was just a human error, but the trigger didn't work in that mission either.

So, after this 5 minutes of frantic typeing, I hope someone can help me.

Did you make the trigger type switch?

Edit:  although there's no reason why setting a variable to 1 shouldn't work in this situation, it might be easier to use true.    So somewhere you will have

squadname_in_FUP = true

and then in your trigger

Condition:   squadname_in_FUP

Another edit:  Try this.   Lose the trigger altogether.    Synch every waypoint in the FUP to every other one.

Final edit:  the activation field of a waypoint is triggered when the waypoint is complete.   I'm not absolutely clear where you have squadname=1, but if it's in the waypoint synched to the trigger it won't work - the whole system is circular.    You need to set the variable in an extra waypoint, immediately before the one synched to the trigger.

I'm trying to think here, but it just might be that I forgot to set the trigger to switch. Thanks for the help, macguba! I was going bannanas over that one!

And I want to thank everyone out there for their input to the forums. I couldn't have gotten this far with out everyone's help!

And I forgot to add this. In reply to your last post, macguba, I wanted to clarify, once the squad or unit reaches the waypoint, say A1, it's activated, right? Or does it have to complete the waypoint A2 to activate the waypoint A1?

Glad to help.  ;)   If I remember rightly (which I don't always manage, always check my answers) the stuff in the activation field of a waypoint is done when the waypoint is complete.   In other words it happens as the group leaves that waypoint to head for the next one, not when they arrive.

Doesn't that whole rule about synching to the next/previous WP apply here? I've forgotten, but maybe thats just 2 WP's synched together.   ???

i.e., you actually have to link it to the WP after the one ....oh I don't know...I think I need some food.    :P   ;D

Hope you enjoy your dinner Mr BoDean.  ;D

What you mean is this

MOVE
MOVE
CYCLE  <----------- you would synch an "enemy detected" trigger with this waypoint
SEEK & DESTROY
