Line up!!!!!
« on: 01 Aug 2003, 11:47:41 »
K picture it, im a squad member and i want to create a cutscene with the leader talking to his men, so i create a squad and line them up in the editor, in the editor it looks perfect but wen u preview it u end up somewhere totally out the way and absolutely nowhere near the place u placed the unit and not in a line. Is it sumthing to do with being in such a large squad or sumthing?

You said you have connected them to be a squad. In the edior you can put them as you want, but a preview mode the formation of the squad will be 'wedge' as default.
If they won't be a squad, and every soldier will be on his own, they'll be right where you place them.

I think you can do what I said as doing every soldier on his own (if it's an intro it's ok I guess), but if it's not an intro, then connect them to a group after the line thing, using the join waypoint or something, I dunno.

Maybe someone else will help you more than me, but I can tell you it's because you connected them into a squad, which as form 'wedge' as defualt.

It's nothing to do with the size of the squad.

When you place a unit look on the right hand side of the unit screen for the "special" field.   If this is set to formation the unit will not start where you place him - he will start in formation with his group leader.      If you set the field to none he will start exactly where you place him, but as soon as the mission starts his group leader will order him to return to formation so he will move almost at once.

To make him stay in the same place use the command doStop.

The default formation is wedge but you can choose the starting formation (I think) by putting a setFormation command in the leader's init field.

In this case it might be better to do as LAPD suggests and not link them in a squad.    If you need them to be a squad after the cutscene put join commands at the end of the cutscene script.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play
