« on: 02 Jun 2003, 12:11:53 »
i need a sound effect of a helicopter engine failing... well any engine will do, anything that can make a bell chopper sound like the engines gione wrong - removing and adding fuel doesnt really cut it at the moment.

Hi Messiah!

I might have something for You, but You've got to help me:

With what program can I open a *.ra file?

No .ra files, (Real Audio)

Many thanx for Your help though. Don't worry I'm working hard on it! :)
I'm downloading a program right now. Then I'll check if what I have would be good for what You look for.

In the mission I'm building lately, a plane crashes due to sabotage. I had made sounds (with my mouth LOL) to simulate a failing engine.

   I gave up! ;D

But wait! I might have some...

I got some!

I have two different helico sounds. They are not best quality but eh!
They're also not sounding much like a failing engine but I'll send You the originals first, then I'll try working some effects then send them to You. Could You wait 'till tomorrow? I might not finish this tonight since it's 23:47 for me here! But I'll get into it now already! 8)

Try play the files in a loop, since they are very short. I play them with winamp and it sounds good.

...Hmm! they're too big to post here...

How can I send You the files? If You want, just email me to let me know where to send them to. (email In my profile)

Hi Messiah,
if ya need some extra editing, and/or put that sounds (C.Crunch gave you) on steroids, feel free to contact me, and i'll give it a shot (yes i've got all the tools and i do that for a living besides composing and sound design and CD mastering and yes, i'm a OFP addict).
Email me to ruipadinha@netvisao.pt , or reach me at the forums.
See ya.

that would be great - basically what crunch has given me is a selection of chopper engine sounds - and i want to merge and mix them to create the illusion/sound of a failing chopper engine...

i'll send them asap.

Hey Messiah,
i'm afraid it's not going to be easy, because the sounds are not that good, and the rottor failure sound has to be faked, and that takes time and a lot of experimenting.
Anyway i'm willing to give it a go, but i need to know a couple of things first.

Is this going to be heard inside or outside the chopper (or bouth)? If is outside, what distance?
Since the sounds are not great, it could work if heard from a distance, but could be poor for a first person view inside the chopper.
Have you any other chopper sounds we might use for this? And what chopper are we talking here?
Thouse sounds can work for a small bird, not for a big one i'm afraid.

Sory for all the questions, but if i know precisely what you want to do, i'll probably come up with a better solution.

Hope to hear from you soon.
