If they hit 'n' the nightvision will come up, which is green...you cant change the colour at all

I was not refeing to "N", I was refering to the action list:-D

erm, i dont think you understood me, the 1985 goggles always appear when 'n' is hit, this is hard coded, there doesnt seem to be a proxy on the soldier models for NVG's so it must be hard coded

We wont use the Black Op...
We will use a normal unit...

There is also nothing in the cpp distinguishing the NVGs from the binoculars, which ingame act very differently also pointing to the NVG's being hard coded, another thing that points to it is that i asked Araon (Lead Modeller from BIS) if it was possible and he said no, so you can try, but it wont work...

If you played a few Multiplayer games recently, there is a selection, if you want NVG goggles, or if you don't...

BIS said many things were not possible...(custom animations)
and look what we have now;)

hate to spoil your fun, but ALL the units have the NVG proxy so no matter what you do it IS NOT GOING TO WORK....

that will disable the 'N' button too...

Trust us mate, we have a lot of experience, and this will not work...

all that will happen is the screen will go red (if you can even make that happen), it will be useless, it wont work as nightvision which actually makes the surroundings brighter to the player so its easier to see, normal units can use NVG's too, they just dont have it equipped, when you equip them they appear just like the black ops'
If you played a few Multiplayer games recently, there is a selection, if you want NVG goggles, or if you don't...

....what does that have to do with anything?

BIS said many things were not possible...(custom animations)

they never said they werent possible, we just didnt have the programs to make them at the time, if someone with the full version of o2 decided to make an animation then they could, and it would be custom made, but its not freely available

So ill change what i said, it is impossible to edit the NVG's without an SDK/Full engine editor

Making a unit have some NV goggles there can be done, they can also be moved like on the pilots in the nam pack...

If you don't want 85's, dont use them!

Make the unit spot people nighttime in the cpp, also add a new NVG script to the PBO...

What I am trying to say is,

1) Make a unit

2) PUT ON the NVG goggles
(attatch) the NVG goggles keyword: attatch

3)place the rest of my objects on him...

4)Create a New animation where he pulls the
goggles up and down WITHOUT pressing 'N'

5)Put the mission scripts inside of the mission folder
(NVG on, off SFX, Color changes, flash effects, ETC)

So you see? It really is possible..Iwill prove it by releasing a small example of the goggle effects.

OK, here we go....

Download the mission file, and place it inside your "USER" folder...(whichever one you want)

I have a whole bunch for organization!  lol

There are a few minor things I did not add....

(1  NVG does not have "fuzzy" effect

(2  NVG effect is not transparent (will be soon)

(3  The NVG off selection has no affect

Basically, it's just showing you how exactly I am going to do the NVGs
:-D

I love saying "I told you so"
lol
not to be a pain in the ass of course ;)
Just trying to show how to go about doing things

Cheers All,

I think the question here ought to be "how" did the BIS folks achieve the NVG effect? Eviscerator points out that it's hard coded into the game, and it looks like he's right.

So lets look at the mechanics of how they achieved the effect.

I mean, we are talking about in-game properties and physics and what not. I am more than familier enough with how real NVGs work (Image Intensifiers. 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Gen. Micro Channel Plate, etc). But, this being a game and all, that's out the door because we are talking about a "simulated" environment.

So just what are the NVG's properties?

1. Localized effect. (i.e. turn 1 nvg on it doesn't effect everyone, only the nvg user).
2. Does not have to be in single person view (can use the third person view to see yourself in nvg mode).
3. Is a resource that can be used during cam cutscenes.
4. resolution and such doesn't seem to change much.
5. As I recall, it does seem to get appreciably brighter if used during "daytime", so the "exterior" light level can have an effect.
6. We have noticed an interesting phenomenon in multiplayer games. _CAMCREATE effects can go unnoticed (except for the actual explosion in arty fire) by all the players except the host machine (countered by the _createvehicle).

I would say this is interesting because in single player, who's gonna tell you whether or not whenever you put your nvg's on, that it really IS "night" outside. That the nvg screen is really a script for turning on "daytime" mode in the sky and a green filter over all?

But, we can confirm this isn't the case because in MP, when it is night for one player, it is night for all players. Any visual effects produced has to be localised to whoever calls the script. Kinda a confirmation of number 1.

All this would tend to lead me to think its a "scripted" effect. Even if hard coded into the game, we should be asking is there a set or series of commands that can replicate/alter the same? Anyway of screwing around with viewer contrast or brightness? If you were designing the game, how would you do this? Anyone want to get on the line to BIS and ask how they created the nvg effect? Not whether it can be altered but how is it done?

Are there functions of which we are unaware of that can manipulate the in-game environment (we can increase-decrease sound, the same for time).

Just mulling this stuff over.

NSDQ!!!

couldn't you have a script that made the gamma higher, and put on the NVG model, and displayed a texture that looked like NVG?

alright just to burst ur bubble on this whole thing...im 99% sure and agree with 90% of the posts in this that are against this idea. I believe that BIS has hardcoded all the NVG into the actual game and not some small file...unless u want to go back...redistribute the game and then get sued for copyright infringement. i DONT think this would do ANY GOOD!

2nd bubble to burst is Heat goggles are theoretically impossible. The units in the game give off no heat signature nor could they ever until BIS for some reason release a HUGE update or maybe even a new expansion to maket his possible. Without Heat signatures heat (infared) goggles are just useless blinking lights that would do no good besides making it easier to see at night...hmm that sounds like NVG.

A real set (well, they move) came with BAS's units, which are awesome.

sorry spec op, but those NVGs are pure fantasy. If you want to make a real-life set of NVGs, do some research. Splinter Cell is a great game, but there is no such thing as nvgs with built in thermal vision and whatnot.
