thanks for the link FW200. unfortunately they don't have any downloads (yet!)

@jimpy: I like the idea of the rifle grenades instead of underslung grenade launchers. very old-timey and original (and cheaper). love the FAL, MAG, and Bren.

There still has to be some significant armor presence on Everon, you can't just have 5t trucks or Exported Urals as the primary mode of transport for war.

I'd say about 8 T72 Export version tanks, 10 BMP-1's, and 18 BTR-80's.  That should be sufficient for an Army their size and within their budget.

It would probably also be wise for them stock up on affordable and highly effective Air defense assets.   Unfortunately I don't know the price listing for most NATO/Russian SAM/AAA systems.

Don't forget that the U.S. poured at decent helping of many millions of dollars to promote Soviet deterence after CWC, mainly with training and logistic support.  By the time that aid had dried up after the end of the cold war, Everon had spent it on some very much needed military goods.  Thus they had very little debt regarding military spending.

Yes, I totally agree with most of the small arms you've decided on, however I still feel they would keep a large stash of RPG's available for use in wartime.  They are cheap and very effective against those APC's and IFV's that would be the primary enemy should an invasion occur.  Heavy armor is difficult to transport via sea and requires a huge logistic support structure for a large marine invasion.

BTW, what will be the primary choice for the weapon used by the Eveon sniper/designated marksmen?  Just curious.

A highly mobile and capable artillery force is a must in such a small island.  If rapidly deployed and combined with armor, it could significantly forstall or halt a amphibious invasion if there is enough early warning provided.

"designated marksmen" would not be used. That is a modern (?)
US Army term, and "designated marksmen" were not part of the
British section organisation in the 1980's which the Everon forces
organisation is based on.
Everon Self Defence Force snipers (with 1980's equipment) use
the British L42A1 (from the Malvinas Mod), although the SLR
with 4x SUIT sight is a pretty good "sharpshooting" rifle in it's
own right. I use the British rifle because given their supposed
affiliation with the Royal Marines I assume that they would have
received sniper training at Specialist Wing, Commando Training
Centre, Royal Marines at Lympstone in England. Yes, those
bewildered foreign-looking boys and girls you might have seen
on the platform at "Lympstone commando" railway station were
probably just off the 'plane from Everon.   :)

66mm LAWs and Carl Gustavs serve adequately as "RPG"s.

Oh, and by the way, Everon is a former British colony. The
Soviet invasion in 1985 was resisted by the ESDF, Naval Party
8906 Royal Marines, D coy. 2nd Batt. 51st (Highland) volunteers
(TAVR) and the Chipping-Sodbury Young Ornithologists club
(Everon is world famous for it's avian fauna).     ;)    The islands
were re-taken by a "task force" composed of 2nd Batt Parachute
Regiment, 40 and 45 cdo. Royal Marines, 5th Gurkha Rifles and
supporting logistics, air and naval forces. The US involvement in
the resistance and liberation of the islands is a gross exaggeration.
 :P

...and the bird-watchers were all repatriated safely, enjoying the
chance to go home on the QE2 for free (albeit full of grubby soldiers)

Sure, and I guess in CWC the U.S. just stood around being doorposts and cleaned up the mess after you got there.  The major flaw in your explanation is that the U.S. was the major prescence of "containment" in the 1980's regarding Communism and besides the UK focusing on Europe and its territories like the Falklands, the UK stayed relatively out of such ventures such as Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Nothing against your view of how it should happen, but I feel it would be better if it were a little more balanced in its progress.

To me, Everon, Malden and Kolegjev appear to be more Northwest Pacific region islands, near the Kuril Islands.  Not European islands near the Iron Curtain.  There it would make much more sense that the Russians would aggressively try to capture and hold these islands.

the history of what happened in 1985 on everon is thoroughly explained in CWC. no one can change it. the point of the ESDF pack would be to create an army for the island so that mission designers can create everon's history and development up to the present and slightly into the future. here's what we have so far:
units: OD green uniforms, british style, FN FALs or SIG SG-540, unknown pistols, LAWs or RPGs and Gustavs for AT. no sniper rifle (yet)
armour: T72s, BMPs, BTRs
aircraft: MiG-21, Beriev Be32 K transport (I think)
helicopters: Lynx, Huey, Mi-8 Hip, or Mi-2 Hoplite
cars and trucks: jeeps or UAZs (most likely UAZs), Urals or 5t Trucks (most likely Urals).
AA: unknown Gun system, most likely 932K Strelas for infanty.

Ha ha! As if I care about any of that nonsense! It's a game. A fantasy. I can
change the "history of Everon" and its geographical location any time I like;
*thinks for a second* There I've just done it again....   ;D    The assertion that
the US had to "contain" communism is pure nonsense but I can't argue the
point in this non-political forum.  Anyway, to me this thread is becoming thoroughly
tedious now.  I'm off to ruthlessly purge the ranks of the ESDF.

"Pooshbolovnye!"  (that's Everonese dialect for "Goodbye for ever")   ;D

i don't actually care about the history of everon either, i'm just saying it will be easier to stick loosely to the history that's played out in CWC. anyway, i don't even know why this came up. is there actually some addonmakers that want to make this? i think it would be pretty simple, just some nice easy retexurization jobs.

I like the idea of an Everon army but is the Nogovan armed forces project doing exactly the same?  ::)

i believe so. also, as we are dealing with 4 small islands that are apparently very close together, i guess they could all fight under the same banner, maybe even become one nation in the 20 years after CWC. for that reason, it may be possible to just us the Nogovan Forces mod and say that all 4 islands fight under the banner of Nogova. less addons for players to download. it could be a great mission, in fact, if you said that the populace of one island rebelled against the main governing body. but that's off topic...

I think NAFP is covering Nogova, Malden and Everon. Cause they had the idea to station troops on those islands. I also saw some different troops for Kolgujev some time ago on their old site, so I think all islands are covered  ;)
