Challenging Civillians
« on: 09 Feb 2005, 12:05:11 »
ok, im working on a script where by a soldier is inserted into a city populated with hostiles and civvillians,

the soldier can approach civillians and challenge them (In this case the soldier demands to know what the civillian is doing)

so far theyre are several outcomes;

1. Civvi pulls out a pistol and starts shooting
2. Civvi runs away in panic
3. Civvi is strapped with explosives and chases the soildier, blowing himself up when hes close
4. Civvi just exchanges pleasantries with the soldier
5. Civvi begs to be rescued and joins up with the squad

anyway my question is (in order to make it moderatly realistic) what other stuff could the civvi do??

You could make the civils just stand there stuttering or speaking very fast in a different language. Stuff like 'Please don't kill me, please' etc.  ;)

Please, don't make the suicide thing! See, when the player starts talking to the civilian, he's so close that the civilian will blow right away!  :P

Maybe a civilian could start telling something about the enemy forces he's spotted...  ;)

A good idea! (I mean your script, not my suggestion ;) )

Civillian gives away faulty information and/or tricks the player.
Civillian tries to trick player but screws up and starts to stutter and might reveal the correct information.
Civillian panics and refuses to cooperate.
Civillian ignores player.
Civillian calls for backup.

thanks guys....some nice ideas flowing here

@Epeli

the suicide and the pistol thing only kick in when the soldier has turned his back and is moveing away (in real life your not going to pull a gun on a soldier thats facing you)

civilian could offer to take the player to the secret hideout of the enemy or somthing.

civilian could beg the player to fix his car/truck

civilian could beg the player to get his wife and kids off the island to safty.

Well if you want a real dirty city kind of deal a few not so moral women wouldn't go amiss. Or a civvie takes you into a side story completely different from what you were originally doing...

ok,the sript is 90% done is going to be implemented into my upcoming Afgan campaign

so far the possibilites are

1. Civvi pulls out a pistol and starts shooting
2. Civvi whips out an AK
3. Civvi runs away in panic
4. Civvi is strapped with explosives and chases the soildier, blowing himself up when hes close
5. Civvi talks to the soldier
6. Civvi talks to the soldier, then when the soldiers walking away he starts lobbing grenades
7. Civvi gives away solders position and yells out for reinforcements, a few soldier are created and run towards soldiers position from all directions
8. Civvi warns soldier of an incoming tank platoon
9. Civvi offers to heal any injured soldiers in the team

Interesting! :D

So out of that, there are:
5 hazardous possibilities
2 unhelpful but not dangerous possibilities
2 good possibilities

I'd be weighing up the pros and cons. Would make the mission a lot more exciting though :)

Afgan map?

What about if you talk to the "wrong" people, you get abducted? :P

Or is that too sensitive? :-\

Script sounds good so far. ;)

one of the mission objectives will be to rescue a certain number of civvis, thus there being an incentive to walk up to the civvi

Howabout he grabs a cell phone and unless you shoot him soon enough, he will call the police and you will have to fight them.
