God bless macgubas tutorial mission
« on: 27 May 2004, 19:53:54 »
thanks to macguba and his tutorial mssion. I took it apart and a lot of it has helped me make an in-progress mission.

Just one or two things:

The comments in  the various files included with the mission.sqm were good, but for me (I don't even know where to begin when using the files for scripting) they could be a little hard to understand. Perhaps some more in-depth comments would help.

The intro.sqs was quite hard to understand too ??? although I managed to make some sense of it. (too much scripting... too MUCH!!:noo:)

all in all it was very useful. Many thanks!

You know someone is useful, needed, and wanted when he goes on R&R for a week or two and everyone gets concerned and posts topics asking where he is and the ed depot forum goes to ruin....

I think Macguba deserves another star... ::) :)

Hey, constructive criticism, we like that.     Thanks for your kind words gentlemen, its always nice to be appreciated.

Glad you found it helpful.   I don't know if I'll ever update it, but it I do I'll add more commentary.     And if there's stuff you don't understand, by all means post a question on the Editing: General board.

To get started on scripting in general read snYpir's Friendly Intro to Code Snippets and Johan Gustafsson's Scripting Guide.    For camera scripting read snYpir's camera tute and messiah's camera.sqs tutorial.     I probably should have mentioned that in the tute.

Yeah your tut mission taught me a few things I overlooked like overview pics, I still dunno if its working. ::)

Anyways when I looked at your mission's intro, you used GLs to place the camera right? Is that easier then setposing it the reg way?

(I may be wrong I'm still understanding camera.sqs)

Frankly I can't remember:   I have a feeling I discovered camera.sqs at about the time I did this, so I'm not sure.   It is true that GLs can be very useful in setting up camera shots, but the great thing about camera.sqs is that you tend not to need things like that very much - the camera has an absolute position in the game world, recorded automatically.

IMHO overview pics are THE hardest thing in the whole of OFP editing, with the only exception of genuinely advanced scripting.    They are by far the hardest thing in creating a good basic mission.    Having said that, I managed it which means that anybody can, with a little persistance.

Yeah game logic is better, much easier to use than the reg. way, much much much easier to position  ;D

I'm having troubles with cam. scripting too.  Get the big manual Rob, snypir and hangfyre put together... the link to the search page is... here http://www.ofpec.com/editors/browse.php?browseon=&browsewhat=-1&category=1&subcategory=-1_-1&numreturn=400&displayformat=0&ofpv=1 - (wow these links are hugemungous.)

did I help?

To learn camera scripting read snYpir's camera tutorial and then messiah's camera.sqs tute.   You must read them BOTH in that order.

Well anarchy, you're a little late. I have a grip on camera.sqs now, a little shaky but I'm getting there.

Mac's right, just snypirs and messiahs and you're good... :P :)
