What version of OFP are you using?

Are you using 1.96 and -nomap ? If you aren't, you're probably going to have problems.

You make a shortcut to your OFP EXE and you add -nomap in the shortcut's Target field:

Code: [Select]
"C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTBETA.EXE" -nomap

It changes the way that OFP loads your addons.

If the problem still persists, add command line option -nomap, which will use more compatible way of accessing files, at some performance penalty.

That means: you'll get a little bit performance loss when using
-nomap (at least i understood it that way).

In case you can get ofp + your addons to work fine without
-nomap you should prefer the not using it.

I found that post myself yesterday the first time - i always thought -nomap doesn't make any disadvantages - will have
to test without -nomap too therefore (should have enough ram
for that).

:edit btw - muse - would you be so kind, as tonal works now
for you, to change the topic's title - i don't see it as a nice move,
just because you didn't read the tonal readme, where the -nomap suggestion should be found too

So in short, it loads the addons in a more RAM friendly way? :)
Does it load them as it needs them or something?

I can't tell you by exact knowing it, but after translation
of that into "CD's internal brain_language"

It sounds to me that way:

without -nomap:

when starting the game, ofp creates a reference map
to all addons being loaded, which will give you access to
all addons being included to that map

with -nomap:

a technique (as you assumpted above) will be used, without
creating a reference map, so that addons can be accessed
only when needed.

Maybe in case of small missions with only very few addon's usage this will not make any difference to the user, but the
more complex it becomes, the more performance issues you
will notice (or not).

:note - the statement above is not aproved nor is it supported
by anyone else - it's just what me thinks about the situation.

Cool.... So that means I don't keep having to reload OFP every time I rePBO an addon?? :D
If so, woo!
I'll try tonight :D
- Ben
PS, ta for the explaination :)
PPS, Ahhh... Thats where the memory map problems come in, and the nomap thing (No memorymap) thing stops it? I get it now :D

hmm - i still don't think that -nomap enables addon implemention on the fly (while the game is running).

Anywayz - you'll see the result soon  :)

hey there, i've just d/led the tonal island pack (115mg) and I cant get it to install. I tryed to make a shortcut like M-21 man said but it said  "C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTBETA.EXE" -nomap file cannot be found. I would love to get this island to work but im not to hot on computers so some help would be greatly appreaciated.
thanks in advance.
