In SP - No.

In MP - Yes. Kill and respawn.

Armstrong, please explain. Are you talking about AI or player controlled units? And if player controlled, how is it possible even through respawn to change unit in in MP, if it's not the next unit in group respawn you're talking about?

I guess Armsty is talking about respawn = group,
where you will just reincarnate into the next AI groupmember.

But i couldn't imagine any realistic way of getting this to work
without having the player know that his soul just wandered
from him into his buddy.

And btw - who will tell that his buddies family, or his original
soldiers fam? j/k  ;D

Example what would be cool, but would not really work:

player is alone in his group

radiomessage is set to false, so that player doesn't hear
anything like: 2 follow 1

player gets killed - in the same moment sniper joins his group

player respawns into sniper

voilla

As i said, that's not possible, as the nobody can join the player's,
group once he got killed, but it would have been the only realistic
method i could have imagined.

Or: you can do it the unrealistic way: have 2 groupmembers
1 player
1 sniper (AI)

respawn into sniper, when player dies (no need to wait for a
natural dead, since you could also setdammage him to death)

Artak: Well, I can't explain any further because I don't know anything about MP. Especially not respawn.

Come on, be a little bit more creative. It's definitively possible. Chris Death is on the right way.  ;)

In SP, it is impossible, like Armstrong said. In MP, you could do what Chris suggested. However, if YOU are controlling when they switch from soldier to sniper, you can join the  sniper to the player's group BEFORE killing him, then kill the player, setpos the sniper to the player, and call it a night.

However, this will ONLY work in MULTIPLAYER. In singleplayer, there is no way to do what you are asking.

.,..Unless you can find an addon that lets you add/remove bushes from the unit via scripts. There are some addons out there that let you add/remove leaves from your helmet, but it is such a little amount of twigs that it really just looks rediculous :P

Right, in SP impossible, my post refered to MP part.

And now be more creative!  :D

How to make it, that you can choose your type of soldier after got killed, without "beeing" in a group.  :)

Um... maybe you should read things more carefully. Between the posts Chris Death and I posted, we have already answered your question.

I agree with General Barron here

and btw that's also the reason why i've been quite after my first post -
there's not really anything more you can do here.

If you want it to look realistic without giving the player an impression of
being in the same group with his new body you would need to tweak
around with fade out's and in's, setdammage and disable radiomsg

and if you don't care about already knowing your new body - simply
swap from one existing member into the next one without any tricky
techniques.

No more chances for creativity at this point featured by the game engine.

Question: How do you do it, that you can choose your soldier-type AFTER got killed, without having a mate in your group which can command you, or which you can command.

If you have group-respawn activated you need always a second man in your group or you will respawn as a seagull.

It's irrelevant if you're the commander of the group or your mate. If you're the commander you see always the guy in your "team-menu" and you can use the commander view, if "third view" isn't disabled on server. If your mate is the commander you don't see the team-menu and you does not have the commander-view, but this stupid mate as commander gives you needless orders all the time.

So how do you do it, without the above mentioned things?!

Hmm...I thought the point of this forum is to share information, but perhaps I'm wrong  ::)

Well, if there was an Addon Maker out there willing to make a model where you could give the player a "put un ghillie suit" option, using the same technique employed by...say...orcs russian airborne units (the add grass thing), but un a much larger scale (full body camo) then the solution would be SP compatible and the problem would be solved...
