Bis_Resistance error
« on: 12 Apr 2004, 15:02:22 »
I don't know if im in the right section to ask this question.  But, if not, i would appreciate you guys pointing me to the right section.  Ok to start with I've been downloading some different missions and trying out what other people have designed.  With certain campaigns and missions I get an error at the start of cutscenes that I beleive causes me to miss the cutscenes.  My error read something like this:  Error cannot load mission: missing addon bis_resistance.  Well, I have version 1.96 goty edition.  I dont know if it is my fault that it gets that error or something the mission maker did.  Maybe I have the addons in the wrong file folder or something.  I would appreciate any help you could give to me.

thanks in advance. Hitek

Re-installing the game won't affect your third party addons, they will still be there.

I know a little about a lot, and a lot about a little.

Don't follow Armstrong's advice, it won't solve your problems (Well, it will if you delete all your addons too, but you don't want to do that ;) ). I'd recommend putting all of your addons into organized mod folders. Then, when you want to run regular OFP, you can load it without any mod folders and you'll have no problems with missing BI addons.

Yea, that's the generall idea, to get rid of a possible addon who got a conflict or whatever. But m21man's advice is better, be sure not to move the BIS addons though. ;)

I understand ... but the reason i was wondering if it was the added on missions and campaigns was because those missions and campaigns ... certain ones of them anyway ... are the things giving me the error ... like in their cutscenes ... it doesnt stop me from playing the game ... it just stops me from seeing some of the cutscenes i think... the thing is ... i had JUST re-installed it and aaaaaaaalll my addons ... and i read each and every readme for each and every addon.  Ill tell ya what i was thinking... that maybe the mission maker had the same addons as me except they were maybe in his resistance folder and i may have overlooked and put them in the other addons folder ... would this make a difference?  could that be causing the error? ... if not ill just have to try what you guys just said ...

thanks again
Hitek

Zip. Zero. Zilch. Just put all third-party addons in mod folders.

1. If you haven't done it already, upgrade your OFP to version 1.96 RC.

2. Create a folder in your OperationFlashpoint folder. This is your new mod folder. Name it appropriately, if you're going to use it to store BAS units then name it bas_units , etc.

3. Create a folder named addons inside your new mod folder, and fill the new addons folder with any addons you want.

4. Create a shortcut to your OFP exe (It has a couple possible names). In the shortcut's Target field, add the -nomap and -mod=modfolder parameters:
Code: [Select]
"C:Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\Flashpoint.exe" -nomap -mod=bas_units
5. You can use multiple mod folders by using semicolons, like this:
Code: [Select]
"C:Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\Flashpoint.exe" -nomap -mod=bas_units;bas_isle;rhs_units
6. Use the shortcut to run OFP with mod folders.

ah, here it is...got the same error after installing some addons and missions.  ??? (GOTY-edition 1.91) - the problem now is, i don`t know what the original addons of OFP/Resistance were and which i added myself ?  :-\
- anyway, first i`m gonna upgrade now on 1.96, but i doubt if this would help alone....

could you fix it already ? please help !  :)

thanks in advance !

If you explore the game CD you might be able to see which addons are official.

The underlying problem is probably just that you have too many addons in your addon folder.    Putting them in subfolders is the answer.    IT doesn't sound like a fault with any of the addons themselves.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

try this wonderful prog from dkm, it will really help to keep your add ons straight, you can deactivate all your add ons, except the "official" ones for troubleshooting purposes, without actually deleting them

thank you all, iÂ've fixed it. i moved some add-ons and moved back a "O.pbo" to the add-on folder, that i removed accidentally because of its size of 170 (or 17 ) MB !? but this one is needed obviously for Resistance...  ::) - started a mission then which was far too heavy for my old pc, was a nice slide show...  :-\
