People should be able to choose that, and they will, because you can't force 1st person view.

There's a way by using an instant camera switch to
internal, but i also would like to be able to choose this
by myself.

Personally i do prefer the 3rd person view, not because it's
easier, but because i do not like the 1st person view.

When i'm playing i like to watch my soldier like watching a movie
and while shooting i switch to the iron-sight. Even more, i
hate the 1st person view, because i can't get the feeling of
playing the same OFP as in 3rd person.

btw - i also prefer the 3rd person when playing racing games,
event tho 1st person view is easier to drive there.

In any case you could argue that in some circumstances 3rd person is more realistic than 1st since it allows you better peripheral vision for things nearby.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

To yer question:

I think you can by making an endless, quite fast loop with player switchCamera "internal"...

No guarantees though...

Yeah definetly, 1st person is about as relistic as going into battle with a Kennel on your head :)

True....the rearview mirrors in trucks and things dont work.....3rd person only way of seeing behind you. But some ppl like 1st and some 3rd...best to let the player decide.

Or you could put a sentence in the readme kindly asking the player to disable 3rd person in the options  ;D

#loop
?!alive player : exit
Player switchcamera "internal"
~0.01
goto "loop"

That will work, but it has a big problem... because you can't switch back to ironview for aiming.

I don't think there's a solution for SP missions.

Haven't you ever played multiplayer? Many servers disable 1st person view. I don't see why it is so unreasonable to want to do the same thing in SP.

But its also unrealistic in many circumstances, since it allows you to see around corners of buildings, and see over bushes, etc.

True, 3rd person view gives you peripheral vision, which makes it a nice feature that is usually unavailable in FPS. However, it does have those very legitimate problems, which in some ways balance out whatever realism is gained. The problem of course is the fact that monitors are so damn narrow. Maybe if you had a 5 ft wide monitor, you could play a game with a realistic first-person view, and all would be great.

Most of all though, I'd like to disable the "overhead view" that you get when you are a squad leader. That view pisses me off SO bad... its about 100000 times more unrealistic than 1st or 3rd person views combined. It gives the player SUCH an unrealistic and game-breaking advantage! God I hope BIS trashes that crud in OFP2.

General Barron, i don't think you should compare MP
1st person only with SP 1st person only.

In single player ppl should be able to do what they want,
as they are playing only on their own and for their own
fun.

MP 1st person is ok, because it's some kind of skill setting in
x vs x games. But to be honest, i would hate playing a MP coop in 1st person view.

The commander's view, is not really on topic in this thread,
and i fully agree that it's not a very realistic view. But then
again the commander's view simulates some kind of comunication between the group members, as in real life
your groupmembers could tell you what they see, and in OFP
they only say: 12 'o clock "singing bush" or so  ;D

Why should anyone care about, how another one would play
on his own in single player? Some ppl would even say: if only
that way, then there's no way

Hell in single player even cheating is tolerated, why not - ppl
shall do what they need to have fun when not disturbing
any others by that.

just my opinion, but i think i'm not that far off other's here

What about if a mission maker wants to limit the player in some way, in order to enhance his mission? Lets take a one-man blackop mission, for example. If I were to make such a mission, I wouldn't want the player to have things like tanks and helocopters, and a full squad to drive these things. Sure, its SP, and the player should be able to do whatever he wants. But if I'm making a mission, I want to determine how the player experiences that mission, to the maximum possible extent. That is how you make a unique mission.

If you don't want to play how the mission designer wants you to play (to a certain extent), then you should just open up the editor, plop down some units, and fire away. But if you are going to download somebody's mission, shouldn't you expect to play the way the mission maker has designed the mission?

General Barron, i don't think our discussion about
our opinions really makes sense to be continued.

I won't get off my opinion, even if i understand what
you mean, and you won't get off your opinion.  ;)

Just one more thing: i wouldn't like to play a mission,
where i would have to play in a way i don't like to.

I know this may be onle me then not playing it, but
then shall it be so  ;D

If you read my first post, you will see that i did not try
to prevent Matty from doing what he wants, even more
i was talking about how it would work.

Let's come to an end, before the thread gets locked upon
a neverending discussion, about opinions  8)
