SideRadio!
« on: 04 Jun 2003, 19:53:22 »
Hi again all!

  I wanted to add some spice to my mission with some SideRadio chats but it ain't workin'!

  I did, (I suppose not!) everything right;

--The description:
Code: [Select]

class CfgMusic
{
      tracks[]={PeopleOfTheSun};

      class PeopleOfTheSun
      {
            name = "PeopleOfTheSun";
            sound[] = {\Music\PeopleOfTheSun.ogg,db+25, 1.0};
      };
      };

class CfgSounds
{
      Sounds[] = { Jason01, Tommy01, Jason02, JP01, Jason03, Tommy02, JP02 };

           class Jason01
           {
                 Name = "j1";
                 Sound[] = {"Jason01.ogg", db-50, 1.0};
                 Titles[] =
                 {
                 0, $STRM_Jason01
                 };
                 };

           class Tommy01
           {
                 Name = "t1";
                 Sound[] = {"Tommy01.ogg", db-50, 1.0};
                 Titles[] =
                 {
                 0, $STRM_Tommy01
                 };
                 };

           class Jason02
           {
                 Name = "j2";
                 Sound[] = {"Jason02.ogg", db-50, 1.0};
                 Titles[] =
                 {
                 0, $STRM_Jason02
                 };
                 };

           class JP01
           {
                 Name = "jp1";
                 Sound[] = {"JP01.ogg", db-50, 1.0};
                 Titles[] =
                 {
                 0, $STRM_JP01
                 };
                 };

           class Jason03
           {
                 Name = "j3";
                 Sound[] = {"Jason03.ogg", db-50, 1.0};
                 Titles[] =
                 {
                 0, $STRM_Jason03
                 };
                 };

           class Tommy02
           {
                 Name = "t2";
                 Sound[] = {"Tommy02.ogg", db-50, 1.0};
                 Titles[] =
                 {
                 0, $STRM_Tommy02
                 };
                 };

           class JP02
           {
                 Name = "jp2";
                 Sound[] = {"JP02.ogg", db-50, 1.0};
                 Titles[] =
                 {
                 0, $STRM_JP02
                 };
                 };

           class AssHole01
           {
                 Name = "asshole1";
                 Sound[] = {"AssHole01.ogg", db-50, 1.0};
                 Titles[] =
                 {
                 0, $STRM_AssHole01
      };
      };
      };

class CfgRadio
{
   sounds[] = { RadioJason01 };

   class RadioJason01
   {
      name = "RadioJason01";
      sound[] = {"RadioJason01.ogg", db-40, 1.0};
      title = $STR_RadioJason01;
           };
                };

};

And in a script i typed:

EnableRadio True

then

Jason SideRadio "RadioJason01"

I don't even get an error message!

Any idea?

Try this :

Code: [Select]
sound[] = {"RadioJason01.ogg", db, 1.0};

db-whatever means that you're turning the volume down.

Much better!

   Many thanx amigos! ;)

Uhm! In the stringtable file, what do I have to write after the coma ( , ) at the end of the radio STR?

STR_RadioJason01, What the hell is that? , ???????

BTW, sorry I've posted my question in the wrong forum!

BTW, sorry I've posted my question in the wrong forum!

Um.. I isn't the wrong forum. Your Qs have something to do with Music/Sound/Cutscenes

Anyway, to your prob.

You can define the text that should come up on the Screen/Radio/Marker whatever...

STR_RadioJason01, Hi! My name is Janson.

You can also use it to use diffrent languages.

STR_RadioJason01, Hi! My name is Janson. , Hay. Mine name is  Janson. (NOT Good in dutch)

Also, you need this line at the top of your file...

LANGUAGE,English,French,Italian,Spanish,German,Comment,

Note: Few people use all those languages. The most used are those
LANGUAGE,English,Comment,

Then It would be,
STR_RadioJason01, English Text, French Text, Italian Text, Spanish Text, German Text, This is my test talk

Another good thing to know is this!
If you use commas in your text like this,
STR_RadioJason01, Hi, My name is Janson,
the text Hi, will only appaer on the screen because you have added a comma and that seperates the diffrent languages.
To fix this, simply put your text inside quotes:

STR_RadioJason01, "Hi, My name is Janson",

One last thing. DONT EVER, EVER USE EXEL TO EDIT YOUR STRINGTABLE FILE!It simply screws it up. Use notepad. The same program you use to edit scripts

That coveres the most.
Any helpfull???

Thanx man! Yes it did, I know now more about the subject.

I still have the problem though, I can hear the the radio speech but it won't print on the screen. I checked a few spmission to try and find out and what is writen in those stringtables are names like Sergeant Newman. here's an sample:

STR_S06r01,ALPHA ONE TO ALL UNITS. REMEMBER - NO-ONE IS TO LEAVE HERE ALIVE. LET'S WASTE 'EM! OUT.,ALPHA UN A TOUTES LES UNITES. JE VOUS RAPPELLE QUE LE MOT D'ORDRE EST : PAS DE QUARTIER. ON VA TOUS LES TUER ! TERMINE.,ALFA UNO A TUTTE LE UNITÀ. RICORDATEVELO: NESSUNO DEVE USCIRE VIVO DA QUI. FACCIAMOLI A PEZZI! CHIUDO.,"ALFA UNO A TODAS LAS UNIDADES. RECUERDEN, NADIE DEBE QUEDAR CON VIDA. ¡HAY QUE ACABAR CON TODOS! CORTO Y CIERRO.",ALPHA EINS AN ALLE EINHEITEN. DENKT DRAN: HIER SOLL KEINER LEBEND 'RAUSKOMMEN. MACHT SIE FERTIG! ENDE.,Sergeant Newman

I also tried typing my name, the player name and it still won't print.

Any idea!

  Many thanks in advance!

Not 100% sure, but, try putting a space after each comma.

And, make sure your csv file is called.....whatever.csv and NOT whatever.csv.txt

:hmm:

Heeey...?? Whats wrong? I'm only telling the truth  ;)

I edited an ofp stringtable file with exel, and when I try to save, a LOT of strange errors appear on the screen but I were able to save it anyway. (I edited it to make my own "Die" popms to see if it was possible.) The result was that none of the poems showed up. Even not those I hadn't edited. The date was gone and so was some of the text in the Sp missions.  >:(

As you can see, my experience of using exel to edit stringable files are VERY bad  ::) :P

Hey buddy, im not here to start a flame war about whats better or not, but to point out that just because u had a bad experience using it, doesnt actually mean that its bad and no one should try it. I use it and im totaly fine with it. And errors u were getting r simply when excel tells u about converting some stuff and saving at a different format, but thats about it and everything works fine in OFP.

Guys... ::)

   You can chat on my threads, I really don't mind. I'm a very social person myself! ;)  :P

  But I still don't have the answer to my problem!  ;D

Here's my problem again:

   In the stringtable.csv:

---For speeches:
STRM_Speech01, BlaBlaBlaBlaBla. , Comment

---For radio speeches:
STR_RadioSpeech01, BlaBlaBlaBlaBla. , ?????????

My problem is there, what do I write at the place of the question marks?

If I type , Comment, the text appears in light blue on the screen. I want it green, how do I do that?

cheers!!

@Navy
Aww. You're right  :-[ If exel works nice, then use it.
(It seemes that I is the only one with the exel problem.)

@Captain
Are you using the sideRadio command? Check this out  ::)

When you want text to come on the screen, you use either
SideChat "BlaBlaBla"
GoupChat "BlaBlaBla"
GlobalChat "BlaBlaBla"
VehicleChat "BlaBlaBla"

When you want to call your sound file you use the sideRadio command. Then it is blue because it is the same as sideChat.
Also, use the groupRadio command to make the text green.

NOTE: You must be in the same group as the unit that talks. If you (The player) is saying it, there is no problems.

You're not the only one Erik...

I tried excel on a .csv once and it completely shafted it. It wanted to change the config of the file (which I let it do), and then OFP didn't accept the file ::)

Having said that, if it works for you Navy_Seals, then go for your life ;)

Excel works great for me never had a problem with it, just press yes or ok the the messages when you save and everything works ok.
