Dodgy addon....
« on: 18 Apr 2003, 20:17:41 »
I recently d/l'd 4 or 5 add-ons for use in my map....being in a rush to get back and test out these add-ons i just extracted them all consecutively when i really should have done them one at a time and booted OFP each time to rule out any that might cause cause errors....just my luck i am now getting an error when i reach the main menu...

No entry 'config.bin/cfgWeapons.HKSOCOM.

I have looked thru my addons and Res/addons folders and can't find a matching HKSOCOM.pbo

Also i can just click ok and still play the game....any ideas??

Sounds like either you need that addon or get rid of all 5 of those addons you just placed in your folder and that should do it.

What i'm saying is....i was in such a rush to try them out i just stuck them in as fast as i could and i can't remember the  names of the pbo's and i've got loads of them in there and sifting through them using trial and error would take till OFP2 comes out!!....Pays to pay attention i know :-[ but i have just got to grips with editing/scripting and stuff so i've kinda got the bug and was just thinking about getting back to my map :-\

this is a problem i have run into loads of times. in your case i believe you do actually have the missing addon in question, try switching what addon folder you are using (i.e move the addons from Res\addons folder to the normal addons folder or vice versa). if you really didnt have the addon the mission wouldnt start.

I make a lot of missions (none released.....yet) using a lot of custom addons and for example the other day i made one using the BAS Delta\Ranger addon and decided i wanted to use the USMG packs SAW instead of the BAS one. everything was fine until i exported and played the mission, then every time i started the mission it said "cannot load mission, missing "otwM249Mg", but the mission still played.

The way i stopped this from happening was to put a unit that came with the addon (M249 SAW Soldier) in the mission with "deleteVehicle this" in the init field. this forces the game to load the addon, for some reason it sometimes doesn't (i aint got a clue why). this is a problem which i have found with about 75% off all addons i have d\loaded and i've got 5 CD's full of them !!

U seem to have misunderstood my problem mate :)

Basicly i have put 5 addons into my addons folder without recording or even taking any notice of the names of any of the pbo. files.

Now i am getting this message at the main menu...

No entry 'config.bin/cfgWeapons.HKSOCOM.'

As there is no pbo resmbleing HKSOCOM in my addons folder i just hoped maybe someone knew the coresponding filename so i don't have to sift thru them all by trial and error!

Thanx all the same for the reply ;D

Get a new computer, move to a different country, change your name and buy a fresh version of OFP, its your only hope.      Probably.

Oh, and

Welcome to the forum!

Take all 5 addons out of your addon folder and reboot.    Add them back one at a time, restarting OFP each time.   Tedious, but it might at least identify the one that is the problem.   Try putting it in your Resistance/addons folder.

Thinks:   I suspect it is coming up because it is something to do with the pseudo-mission that is playing in the background of the main menu screen.    So if you reboot in fact you won't get it because OFP will default to a known island and pseudo-mission.    .anim I think they are called.

Well i get the same error if i put it in Res/addons so i guess i'll just leave it out....shame, it looks like a tasty weapons pack too....oh well....back to making my first map ;D

BTW....Even though i have been playing OFP for the best part of a year now, i have only started to dabble with the editor this last week....i have had very little sleep for the last 2 nights because i have been studying yours and snYpir's tutorials and i gotta say thanx  i have now got to grips with waypoints triggers and basic commands but i believe to make a REALLY good mission scripts are essential!!  I have more tutes to study but i was wondering if there is an archive of ready made scripts available??

Thanx again for your help and keep up the good work!! ;D

its an ofp bug
(Since 1.75 i think) for some god known reason maps when converted to pbo dont list the required pbo in the mission.sqm file

its a very common message in mplayer games

If you dont crash and you can see the addon eg tank, weapon ingame, then you havent got a problem
