Video Capture program
« on: 21 Feb 2003, 13:19:14 »
There are video capture programs out there...

I need to find them so I can convert them to AVI (if possible)

AVI is a file type that OFP accepts and uses.

This, if possible could be a pretty major leap foward.
But I need a Video capture program.

Basically it records all of what happens on your monitor.

There is also DVD to AVI converters I have found.
Which means OFP Might, just might be able to play DVD video.
(only the video and sound will be toned down)

The only bad thing is the file size would be horrible!  But cable users will have no problem downloading a mission with an AVI file.

Please help me on my hunt! :D

I'm working on this issue as we speak... sorta behind the scenes as it were.. and am planning a tutorial on just this subject  as soon as I get it all squared away...

Without going into too much detail.. I have all of the stuff needed to do this sort of thing.... but there are some issues... and some of the programs I use are professional audiovisual programs I use for school purposes at this point and they don't come cheap.....

I am on the hunt for freeware/shareware versions of these programs.. or at least whether or not you can get trial versions of programs and all that stuff...

look for a tutorial fairly soon with any luck ....

I have been having fun making some small cutscenes, recording them and adding my own custom sound effects and such ...  but the file size really is a bear ...  I'm searching for the best compression scheme for cutscenes right now also..   all of this info will be shared in the near future once I figger it out  all the way :)

I have found Fraps works pretty good, only prob is the res has to be set at 600 x 400 so you lose some quality... but still works pretty good...

Fraps

Only bad thing is that the file size is HUGE when you first record it.. but what I have done is convert it in Windows Movie Maker and have usally gone from like 80 megs to like 6 megs for about 2 mins of video...
