Learning from premade scenerios
« on: 06 Feb 2003, 14:59:57 »
Can anyone tell me how I can view scenerios that have been posted at this site.  I have used the PBO Toolkit to extract the files without a problem.  Only problem is when I go to view the mission.sqm in editor I get an error message and have it quit out of the program.  I am trying to pull these scenerios apart to learn from them especially the real good ones like Absolute Zero.  Can someone set me straight please. thankyou

What do you mean?

Are you downloading missions and trying to depbo them and put them in the editor?

If you are then:

  • Most DePbo programs cant read the mission.sqs
  • Alot of mission makers may reject (i for one)

If you wanna use some use the ones out of the campaigns  :-\

Yes. Thats what I am trying to do.  I read at this Centre that this is what I could do, if I wanted to learn.  I cannot see that it should be a problem for anyone.  It is not like I am going to get any royalties or anything from it.  Withholding information like this is plain selfish and does nothing to help others which is what I thought this centre is about.

Some people are a bit sensitive about their own missions, while others are not.     Personally I'm not, I would be flattered if you took any of my missions to bits...... As long as you didn't subsequently pass of any of it as your own work, which is what people are worried about.      I'm not suggesting for a second that you would, but apparently it has, sadly, been known to happen.

The Tutorial Mission in the Ed Depot is specifically designed for taking to bits.    snYpir wrote a mission called Operation Axe Point on which he based a tute, so that you can also delve into.     And of course nobody minds you looking at the official BIS missions, all of which are accessible if you have a good un-.pbo utility.

Thanks again Macguba. I got the wrong impression about all the scenerios in the depot.  I thought I may have to do something else here.  Anyway I have started corresponding with the author and he may assist.  The "absolute zero" scenerio seems to have everything going for it, that I would to learn about.  I seem to have the OFP editor bug at the moment. I cannot believe that I have spent the past week of my holidays solidly attached to this computer.  I seem to enjoy this more than playing the actual game. Really weid heh!!

Having trouble trying to find Operation Axe Point.  Is it a single or multiplayer game.  Or was it in the Editor depot.  Thanks for the tutorial mission I found that opened my eyes again even more.  Maybe one day someone could put out the mega tute which would incorporate everything.  Would probably solve you guys a lot of time answering a lot of questions from dummies like me.

its single player though I think it can be played as a co-op.   can't remember where I got it ... try searching google.

We were all beginners once - I remember what it was like.    There are a lot more tutes now.... if you read everthing I suggested I'll be asking you questions.  ;)

Are the scenerios in the OFP campaigns encripted because I cannot get them to work either using the PBO utility.

Some of the older unpbo don't decrypt, but the newer and better ones do.    Amalfi's pbo decryptor 1.5 does the job nicely.
