Paa and Pac, whats the diff?
« on: 31 Oct 2002, 16:23:59 »
Might be a silly question but is there any difference between paa and pac files?  :-\

I've converted tga files into both formats and there doesnt seem to be any visual difference.

Any ideas?  ???

I don't think there is any major difference, however...

.paa files are saved properly by texview, .pac files have fubar extensions

terrain textures MUST be .paa or they won't work

Other than that I don't have a clue :)

Paa files generally contain alpha channels, use them where you want some transparency options. Pac files generally don't have any transparency features on them.

game wise, from what I've experienced, paa files are alot tricker to use, especially in o2, as the order in which they are applied affects the order in which they are displayed (eg one face textured with paa may hide another one)

Some people also say that paa files have less color distortion than pac.

Thanks guys.

I might do a bit more messing around with them trying them out on different areas. I only figured out today that I need to chop my larger textures up into smaller bits, to stop them coming out competely blurred and useless when applied. ::)
I only stated modeling with the release of O2 light.
I've got the modelling part down pretty good now, but the texturing part is still quite scary. ;D
